My favorite pizza is the thin crust tavern style pizza at De Marinis Pizzeria in Menominee Falls. Originally, there was a De Marinis in Bay View. The owners had kids, and the kids split with 2 different locations. The best recipe went to Mama's De Marinis (I think), but it ended up closing. There is still a Dom and Phil's De Marinis, but I don't think they have the authentic recipe. I wish I could find out what the recipe is, as I live in San Diego. I think the best can still be had at the one in Menominee Falls.

You need to try Nancy's, Giordano's, Bartoli's, Geno's East, and Bacino's, for deep dish and stuffed. You know there is stuffed pizza and then there is deep dish and they are 2 different, right? And you need to try some other thin crust places like Home Run Inn, Aurelio's, D'Agostino's. Also, a real NYC style Italian Deli called Freddy's in Cicero is a must, where you can get Sicilian style pizza and other types of pizza and authentic Italian Deli items like Arancini, etc. Discovering Chicago food is all about going beyond the tourist trap local chains in the loop and north side by venturing out all over the city and suburbs for those diamonds in the rough.

Mark, Giardiniera is a mix of veggies and not a style of peppers. It is a mix of chopped vegetables, mostly cauliflower, carrots bell peppers, celery & chile peppers in pickled vinegar first, then olive oil is added later. I grew up in a Sicilian/German family in NYC. My Dads, mom, and dad lived upstairs she used to make this from scratch. I am just 70 years old, and I miss her version of this. The store-bought version of it is a far cry from hers. She passed away back in June of 1968, she passed away just a few days after her 68th Birthday. I was 15 years old, I had just graduated from grammar school and would be going into High School in September.

I ate at Uno and Malnati's in the early '80s. Disclaimer. I'm a NYC boy. They were both exceptional pizzas! Fresh ingredients and amazing dough. I don't have any complaints. BUT, and you know their would be, there are two kinds of NYC pizza that no one can touch. The basic 2 slices for $5 NY thin crust pie and then nobody makes a pie like a NY Sicilian pie. A big thick Sicilian pie incorporates all those things you talked about such as fresh ingredients, DUH, and a thick crust with a crusty layer of cheese around the outside. I think what makes a NY pie the best is the crust and the fresh in house mozzarella. Tomato sauce made by people who care, NY and Chicago, are amazing sauces.

Chicago tavern speaks for itself. Look at his reaction to nicks pizza, and he’s like making crazy faces, and making sounds. And you see him quickly eating the pizza. It’s also in a weird flavor too, so I can only imagine if he got the pizza in the flavors he likes.

@kellypedersen9896 Жыл бұрын
I grew up on Vito and Nick's- their sausage has a super-fresh fennel taste to it, and their giardiniera gives the perfect amount of heat (without being overbearing). If you ever do a Chicago SUBURB episode, definitely check out Auerlio's (the OTHER pizza I grew up on).

Good stuff Mark - wish you could have visited the original Aurelio’s in Homewood just south of the city. The thin crust “Super Six” cooked in the old oven is like nothing else! Also, if you’re into deep dish and like a sweet sauce, Arenello’s in Glenwood or Tinley Park is delicious, and a deep dish experience of its own.

I’ve had Chicago pizza in Chicago… it’s absolutly amazing! You just can’t get it or make it the same elsewhere. And here in eastern Canada it’s unheard of. Yeah I like thin crust. Yeah I like nyc pizza, but this is different, a true “pizza pie”❤

The south side of Chicago has always been a chaotic dystopia, and people are defecting to safer ground of the city to witness the various topics that could help hone their skills. Pizza has always been everyone's favorite food, and trying a deep dish version could be somewhat of a "Man v. Food" challenge.

Love your videos and have been following you since the beginning but have a bone to pick with you. As lovely as it is that you introduce the staff in the restaurants you visit, many of us have noticed that your lovely wife and gorgeous little guy travel with you most if not all of the time, we kind of see them from an angle sometimes across the table or sitting at another table when your doing your review but you never introduce them and that is extremely rude. We would love you to acknowledge them with a shout out, introduction they could say hi, give a wave and it would be the respectful, loving and courteous thing for you to do (and it was my little daughter who noticed it and that says quite a lot because we're very big on manners)
