I'm new to aviation but I have not yet heard anyone from ATC talk as much as that lady. She's super comfortable on that radio. ;)
@dwaynemclean2056 жыл бұрын
As a JAX Approach controller, I think I can shed a little light on the Even/Odd thing. As you know, the FARs state: 14 CFR 91.179 - IFR cruising altitude or flight level. (a)In controlled airspace. Each person operating an aircraft under IFR in level cruising flight in controlled airspace shall maintain the altitude or flight level assigned that aircraft by ATC. So, there is no right or wrong altitude (IFR) for direction as you see for VFR Flights. ATC establishes agreements between ATC Facilities called LOAs, (Letters of Agreements) that define how aircraft are handled. This includes Even/Odd use along certain routes. In Florida the flow of traffic is primarily North/South so if your route takes you up/down the East Coast, you will go Northbound ODD and Southbound Even. Most aircraft following the East Coast make a turn at Jacksonville, Jacksonville is the Western most city on the East Coast. If your route takes you up/down the center of the state, you will go Northbound Even and Southbound Odd. Your flight seemed to dance along that line, at first you were cleared up the center of the state establishing the Even altitude, then deviated more East for WX setting into play the Odd altitude, around Orlando you turned more Northwest and back to and Even altitude. Between ORL/TPA and JAX we go Northbound Even/Southbound Odd. Between ORL/DAB and JAX we go Northbound Odd/Southbound Even.

Great flight around weather. I was trying to predict your decision making on navigation. Loved the end BaronPilot.Com Very pro!😀👍
@Stepclimb6 жыл бұрын
If I may make a suggestion... When calling for taxi, all that is required is “ Ground, (call sign), location, “taxi” and ATIS”. Adding “to the active” and “ IFR departure “ are superfluous. Ground knows you are IFR because they see your strip and the runway they assign you should match the “Active” on the ATIS. I always teach that succinct and accurate (phraseology) radio work pay dividends when you find yourself in very busy airspace.

Have you ever considered getting a single yoke. Almost everyone I talk to who flies older barons or bonanzas prefer them. It looks like it would give you better access to things on the right side of the panel, make more room for passenger, and make it easier to slide in and out of the plane.

I think I recall either thru the course of my training and studies or thru yours or Steveos videos that Florida present a slight challenge in the conventional ODD/EVEN altitudes due to the shape of the state? Then again I may have dreamed it up as well! Enjoying the videos from up here in NC! (KHBI)
@christianjackson6 жыл бұрын
Nathan Jackson no you are not mistaken I remember the same
@midlifeflyer6 жыл бұрын
Yes. Because the state is long vertically, the north-south traffic issue presents a unique challenge . Fortunately, our Part 91 hemispheric rule doesn't apply to IFR in controlled airspace and ATC''s rule is variable as needed for traffic.

Looks like you had a good time, and the landing was great. Always 'fun' to fly in the thunderbumpers and build ups. I'm not sure I like that new camera, it doesn't seem to have the contrast and color saturation that the GoPros do. I really wish I could meet all you guys in Osh, it would be amazing. Finally, where are you going to put that IFD550, and still have room for everything else? Even if you have room below where the radar is sitting now, it's going to be really hard to see it. It'll look great, though!
@BaronPilot6 жыл бұрын
It will go on top and the transponder will move to the bottom. It SHOULD have just enough room.

Thanks again for the video! Love everything you do. Just my take, but wouldn’t mind a “wing view” from time to time. Those are just my thing 😉. Question...Do you actively fly through AIRMET Tangos? Also, are fair-weather-day thermal bumps included when considering an AIRMET tango issuance? I am aware that some days you get “bumped” and there aren’t any warnings out, and vice versa. Anyway, have a good time at OSH. Glad to see you on the “North” side of town. If you feel like deviating on the way home, feel free to file to KPTK. The food and beer over this way is great, my treat. Take care.

The one thing I noticed with your new headset, and this might of been the same with the old ones too, its harder to hear you and the ATC as they pick up the airplane engine really well, or not so well I guess. I'ts very loud. Now please don't get offended by me saying this. I just wanted you to know what I'm hearing.

It wasn't the headset on this flight. It was my audio settings and my mix when I outputted the video. The problem has been fixed.

Baron Pilot I have tried looking for that feature where you can put a spot on an airport or something and it would stay there as you move along. Do you know what that feature is called in final cut pro? Or is it part of motion?

The indecisive controllers and their "cray-cray" altitude assignments answer simplified. Controllers have flow corridors that have been agreed to by adjoining sectors of ATC facilities to make your flow more efficient in documents called Letters of Agreement (LOA). They can be different across the country or just two facilities away. To address your initial altitude question flights below 100 going over the ROGAN intersection will be assigned an even altitude which conflicts with a pilot and controllers training and mindset. The same can be seen with flights leaving APF to EWY below 100 will be assigned an ODD altitude which in our minds should be even. These strange altitudes are all for the simplification of flow and allows for slower traffic to remain below faster traffic. It causes the controller to have to think about it as well before assigning. Your altitude should have been initially assigned as 2000 expect 8000 10 minutes after departure, and the departure controller assigned the correct altitude to comply with the LOA between RSW and MIA. Centers have much more airspace and can allow for many more variations such as DIRECT when able. I hope this will help explain why some altitude assignments seem strange and may cause our Spiderman senses to be heightened.
@BaronPilot6 жыл бұрын
Flying in Florida I am use to the non standard altitudes. I have never had them change it 3 time on me in one flight.
