Today I get to work on a 66 Barracuda Formula S. Upgrade the brakes, bolt the steering box back in and a little bit of fine tuning. Then the pay off, a quick cruise around in a classic Mopar!!

Love the 273 V8 had a factory VC V8 in the late 70s Spanish 🇪🇸 red with black vinyl top deep dish rims with the V8 caps heads exhaust modes and carb sway bars put many brand X to shame with bigger motors . Nice 👍🏻 car you got to work on MOPAR for life 👍🏻🇦🇺.

The Sure Grip differential was an option. The 7 1/4 axle is notoriously weak, again, designed for the six, but if it’s still fitted with the original Spicer Power Lok 4 pinion differential, it goes a long way to making it live. It’s a beautiful car, and that’s a nice looking exhaust system.

I just love driving my 1966 Barracuda. There is something about these cars that you cant really understand unless you drive one. I guess the best way I can put it, is they are happy feeling little cars. They arent fire breathing muscle cars, but just really really fun little cars.

Nice . 😊 I picked up a1964 with the 225 Commando auto trans. For $250.00 in tow auction in the late 90s. It had the sport turn lights in the grill and console shift set on the floor silver paint black interior. All stock so not as nice back than but still good looking. To everyone except the wife? So a year later I sold it to a work friend and he drove it from Seattle to San-Fran and smoked the rings like I told him it would . But I got $1500 and I'm sure he got more in Cal'y 😂 Like you I stuck to my Mercury's two 67 Cougars and a 68 Mercury Montego MX that we have owned since 1998. Sold the 57 slab-side Custom-cab with original Chrome bumpers front and rear along with the 67 Ford Fairlain 500 2 door. After buying our Home. Fun Fact; the 68 Montego weighs almost exactly the same as the 67 Cougar. Just a Boy and his Toys life style.

Those Chrysler Corporation compacts were adorable, until the 1967 model year where cheapened interior materials began substituting traditional trim. I used to own several ('63 Dart hardtop, 2 '66 Valiant 2-door sedans, '63 4-door Valaint and a '65 Barracuda 273 2-barreled engine), buying them cheap. Torsion bar suspension made them ride nice and they all were dependable. I ended up getting rid of my Barracuda, only because I and the seller thought that the frame at the front right was bent. Uncle Tony recently explained that a loosened suspension fastener gave this impression and that it was easilly repairable. I can't imagine that a limited-slip differential would be an option on a Formula S. Although, General Motors reserved limited-slip on their top of the line luxury hotrods as options. So, who knows

I had a '65 Dart GT back in the day that was equivalent to the Barracuda S. I had the factory Hurst shifter as opposed to the Inland shifter that this car has. Mine was 273 hp with the single 2 3/4" exhaust pipe and square resonator out back with the Sure Grip diff, white with blue interior. Absolutely loved that car. The exhaust note was perfect. Would love to have that one back.

Being a fellow Kiwi love the kiwi-isms of Kiwi ! I am sure whenever you see one of these like me you just think fast back aussie Valiant AP6 straight away ! I can remember seeing a few of these Barracudas when I was a kid in Auckland , they must have been imported new, not sure whether they were V8 or slant six, they just looked so fantastic with that huge curved rear window, that must be interesting to replace glass on ! Have a good spring as we go into Winter !

Kiwi, IIRC those front brakes are from a '73 or newer style A -body. The factory correct discs for this would have been a Kelsey Hayes 4 piston caliper set up....really cool and getting harder and harder to source......the ones they put on this Barracuda are definately more practical and bountiful and probably work as good if not better than the 4 pot units.. Very nice car for sure....Thanks as always for sharing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The original first gear ratio on this drivetrain would be a 3.08 as I remember, which is anything but tall. Even if it had a later A body 4 speed installed, that’s still 2.66, which isn’t in close ratio territory either. I don’t know what’s possible these days, but those were your options in the 60’s

Looking at that dash, it's the same dash I have in my '67 VC Valiant here in Australia, obviously the reverse for RHD. It's interesting to see how much cross over there is in the US v's AUS variants of the Chrysler vehicles. Very clean example that has obviously been well looked after over the years.

Very nice Barracuda, it's in great condition. Shouldn't the rear axle housing have a ventilation bolt on the brake distribution block? I noticed a normal bolt on there. My 69 had a normal bolt too, but you would think the pressure that builds up forces the pinion seal to leak.

@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 After taking a better look at it, the 7 1/4 rears apparently don't need the vent bolt, as there is literally right next to it a welded on cover, that acts as the vent. So never mind!

@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 it's great to see a man who loves mustang s and fords appreciate other brands as well I took a dislike to mustangs in the early 70 when the local ford dealer had one in for repairs and a family friend showed me how thay did not compare in the body structure and strength to the Australian falcon of the same year and watching some of your repairs only reinforced my opinion on how tinny thay are but that's just my opinion and each to their own.. Are you a trained body man or a mechanic either one you do great work All the best from a .gmh bloke
