3.73 gear is great. Ran it with a big block, 27" tires, TH400 in a 71 Camaro. All it needed was an Overdrive, even better with a second 0.76 Overdrive, sweet perfection !

3.80 gears with 28" tall rears & the six speed for sure, I started with 3.55 was not good out of the hole. Changed to Motive Gears 3.80 so much better all the way through the gears. Love your channel, keep it up !

Consider the future of Rum Runner when it comes to what gear ratio...Lot's of Drag and Drive miles a 355 does make sense...If your 2,000 mile Drag and Drive is a one-time deal then explore other options to include the 373...Living in CA I see you taking it to lots of local events, beach, lower mile trips, date night, etc...As I already noted, think in regards of the long-term future then decide what gear ratio, that is, if it really matters to you both.

To remove rusty bolts try tightening them slightly first. This will stretch the bolt, hopefully breaking the rust bond. I use an impact wrench because it shocks the bolt and can break the bond also. You just have to go slow and steady and try not to snap them. A little heat from an oxy torch can help too. Most of the Hemi and 440 6 pack 4 speed Mopars used the Dana 60. Ford 9" however is easier to change ratios and is plenty strong!

Using the Spicer Parts RPM calculator (there are tons of others too) Your tire: 275 60 15s = 28 inches. So the 3.73s are actually OK on the highway. 5th gear (0.8:1) gives about 2500 rpm @ 70 mph 6th gear (0.63:1) gives you about 2000 at 71 mph. 3:55 is better of course...see below... The only reason to avoid the 3.73 rears is 1st gear will be like an old farm truck: 9.92:1 !! And with your massive 512 torque monster 1st gear might be a liability for hooking up on launch, and you might always want to start in 2nd on the street. 3.55 in 6th gear at 2000 rpm: 75 mph - pretty nice! And that big engine won't even need to gear down to pull from a 55 mph cruise...(55 mph in 6th would be about 1500 rpm) Total 1st is 9.44:1 - still pretty high (anything over 8:1 is more than enough for any big block), so if you want to be greedy...you could go 3:23...1850 rpm gets 75 mph, and that gives you 8.59:1 total in 1st. More than enough for that 512! Given all that, especially the fact that we are talking 512 cu in, 3:55 rears will give you a really great set up with no regrets and pretty good highway cruising, and still give you ridiculous burnouts! Cheers!

I think the 8¾ will be fine, as long as you don't dump the clutch and get traction. Personally, I'd upgrade to a Dana 60 now, and save the time and aggravation of changing it later. Plus, the driveshaft will be shorter with the Dana, so that would cost more as well. 8¾'s are good rear ends, but Chrysler put Dana's behind big engine stick cars for a reason.

You got that right about youtubing work taking twice as long. That charger is looking nice. So im a GM guy, butthe inner webs say that 8.75 rear will maybe hold 650 hp, not sure how accurate that is, but my guess is that big block is going to be knocking on the rear end limit. I coukdnt help but laugh when you guys talk about mpg for a 512 ci.but i know what you mean. Good video guys, God bless yall!

WD40 does a poor job on breaking free rusted bolts, Danny. You need to use P B Blaster,. Heat the bolt or nut as hot as you can get it, spray some P B on it, hit it with a hammer and a drift, and try to remove the fastener. If that doesn't work, repeat again and again until your fastener breaks free. I was a technician for many years working on a bunch of rusty swimming pool equipment, and P B Blaster was the best stuff found for breaking things free. WD40 is for "Water Displacement" purposes, like spraying it in a water soaked distributor or applications like that. BTW, my vote is for a Ford nine inch rear end.

Baby steps! 3:55 gears and put in the Mosher rear end. The 8 3/4 might handle the power, but if you can score the Mosher, that’s what you need. I would stick with the 3:55 gears as that is the best ratio for performance and still get some economy with O/D trans. You might get 1 more MPG with the 3:55 versus 3:73 or higher and that adds up on a long trip. It will still scream and lay rubber just fine. Panel alignment looks promising. Now get to work on all those spot welds! The Spring Fling is a nice West Coast show, but no way is it the biggest Mopar show. Chryslers at Carlyle and Mopar Nats are both much bigger. Holley Moparty is probably similar in size to the Fling.

First of all first time to comment. Now the fancy trans you might need to modify the trans tunnel for a proper fit. Use 1350 u-joints in your 3.5 diameter driveshaft. The 8 3/4 will work if the housing number is a 489 it has a 1 7/8 pinion. With a good aftermarket 35 spline axle and posi track. Oh, Dana 60 are bullet proof and maybe a nice Moser 9” Ford as well. Moser for all your reared parts. ❤ what you are doing…👍🏻😎🇺🇸🏁🙏🏻

Question: Does this Charger have torque boxes on it? I understand that 340s and 383s did not have them because there wasn’t enough power to twist the frame or do they say. If you’re putting 600+ hp in it you will need them. Just wondering. Nice to see the 🇨🇦 girl twisting wrenches.
