Both submarines are excellent. The Astute class is larger by nearly 50%, hence its weapon load is much more important and it can remain at sea longer. It is also reputed to be very quiet. The Barracuda is more recent, so its sensors may be even better and it may be even quieter than the Astute thanks to more recent stealthy technologies. It also carries the most recent heavy torpedo worldwide which is a very useful asset. Both subs should not be compared directly, they do not fulfill exactly the same needs, but are at the top of attack subs worldwide and better than their eastern counterparts.

Loads of technical problems that are still not fixed 18 years after the start of the program mostly due to the design software CAO3D, UK needed the help of general dynamics and their project manager to complete the first one. The MOD also made a lot of jobs cuts in the industrie leading to lost of competence. 56 month delay for the first unit and 53% over budget. The fist unit as already 12 years of life will they ares still missing 3 unit in active service. The PWRA2 is potentially vulnerable to structural defiance, in 2012 they had a radioactive leak in the system closed system they only disclosed it to the public in 2014 with a staggering repair cost of around 230 mpounds. As of 2023 UK can't aligne even one attack submarine. the 30 August 2023 Navy lookout showed that the totality of attack class submarine were in maintenance in harbor. This include the "Market share of the leading exporters of major weapons between 2016 and 2020, by country" from Statista or "Arms exports - Country rankings" by Theglobaleconomy site. There is even a wikipedia page on arms exporters with a ranking on the "Arms industry" page. You seriously thought the UK was the 3rd arms exporters? Even snapping the French sub deal (if.... IF... Australia chose your boat and not the American one) isn't going to help the UK get past France in the rankings LMAO. The UK needs to get past the likes of Germany or China first.
In France, it is said, "Better a small valorous one than a big soft one." Here, it's also the case, especially since the Barracuda is the only one in the world to launch missiles against planes flying over it. No, neither speeds in this video are accurate for security reasons. But the French sub is a different sub than the UK sub, that comparative video is not really adequate. The Barracuda's power/weight ratio is greater than that of the Astute so it should be a tad faster. But again, different Subs.
