French shipbuilder Naval Group delivered the Suffren nuclear-powered attack submarine to the French defense procurement agency DGA on November 6.
=====================
Intended for the French Navy, the Suffren is the first in a series of six SSNs which will gradually replace the in-service Rubis-class. The Barracuda program was launched by the DGA back in 1998. The first steel cut took place in 2007 and the launch event in July last year. Sea trials started in April this year.
Delivery of the six submarines will take place over the coming deck aid and the french submarine forces will be sailing aboard the new Suffren class until the 2060ies.
Official Commissioning of the first in class submarine and its admission into active duty is set for 2021. The second submarine of the class, the Duguay Trouin is now expected to be delivered in 2022.
Sea trials of Suffren took just 6 months and went smoothly. The crew checked the capabilities of the submarine and its compliance with the specifications. An Exocet SM39 antiship missile was test fired in September, while the new Naval Cruise Missile was fired from the submarine in October, marking a first for the french Navy.
The Suffren has a displacement of 5,300 tons while dived. It has a length of 99.5 meters, can reach a maximum depth in excess of 350 meters and has a crew of 65 sailors.

Hardly. The USN commissions the best SSN/SGN/SSBN type submarines in the world with the RN a very close second. It is a significant drop to France in third. After that you have a collection of navies that do operate submarines with nuclear power plants but that is as close the comparison gets. Suffren versus Virginia is a terrible match up for the French boat. Suffren is not a good match for the aging Los Angeles 688 class. Don't get started comparing it to SeaWolf.

@@cadengrace5466 lol how would you know? It's all sensitive material that is highly classified. Like all of us, you don't know shit about the characteristics of US subs and even less about French subs to make any informed comparison. However, we do know that the older Rubis class was able to sink US carrier groups during joint exercices at least twice. In 1998 Casabianca sub sank Eisenhower carrier group during Pean inter allied exercise and in 2015 the Saphir sank T. Roosevelt carrier group during COMPTUEX exercise. Suffren with its new F21 heavy topedoes, Exocet antiship and MDCN cruise missiles, Thales sensors and systems (FYI UK subs and ships use Thales equipment as well) are even more capable than the Rubis class. In 2009 a French SSBN Triomphant collided with a UK Vanguard SSBN, neither was was able to detect the other. Facts seem to suggest French subs are not third rate as you claim but rather equally as capable as US and UK subs. Jog on muppet

EN: The documentary does not say anything about all the advantages that nuclear propulsion brings, in terms of discretion, immersion time or range. Nothing is said either about the acoustic signature, which would appear to be of the same order as that of a shrimp shoal, ie very weak. Note the disappearance of the periscope for a digital version, I assume that this is a first for a submarine.

@Tagadarealty
@Tagadarealty 3 жыл бұрын

@Tagadarealty
@Tagadarealty 3 жыл бұрын

SSBN have been shooting hypersonic ballistic missiles for many decades! A nuclear warhead rains down on eartn at mach 20+. Lastly good luck hitting a moving underwater target with a hypersonic weapon, never been done. In fact hypersonics have yet to demonstrate they can reliably hit a mobile target like a surface ship from a safe distance.

LMAO? S80 is not even operational yet and it has been amateur hour at Navantia from the start (sub can't resurface, propulsion issues, etc...) S80 is not even in the same category as Suffren class. S80 is just a bad copy of Scorpene which has been quite successful on export market. Keep dreaming 😛
