Barrow & Outerside from Braithwaite (I fell in't frozen Tarn! 🥶) The Lake District

Barrow in the Lake District reaches a height of 455 metres sits above the village of Braithwaite 2.5 miles south-west of Keswick.
Although comparatively small in height, Barrow commands an all-round view, with the vales of Keswick and Newlands being visible.
The name of the fell originates from the Anglo Saxon language meaning a hill or long ridge.
the long ridge continues through Barrow Door across Low Moss to the subsidiary top of Stile End 447 meters This was not treated as a separate fell by Alfred Wainwright, although some later guidebooks take a different view.
The view from Outerside 568 meters is restricted by the higher Coledale fells of Grisedale Pike, Crag Hill and Causey Pike in an arc to the west but there is a good prospect of the Helvellyn range to the east and the Skiddaw group to the north east, as well as a bird's-eye view directly down into Coledale with the Force Crag mine at its head.

Brilliant capture of the snow covered Lakeland Fell’s serene beauty. With visibility pretty good there was so much definition in those shots over the tops, especially at Outerside towards Grisedale Pike and beyond. Crunchy snow. At the Tarn Rockstar thought you were going for a wild swim - not sure whether he was keen to join you mind. Some grand views on the way down - across the vale to the Skiddaw group - quite a bit of snow on the south and west faces. Thank you Andy, Tracey & Rockstar for continuing to bring us such stonking fell walks through this winter. ….

Well, I tried not to laugh, really I did. Failed miserably! 'Solid as a rock' 🤣🤣Really super day by the look of it. Love that monochrome look the hills get in winter conditions like that on a cloudy day. That's a super circuit in any season and a really good one to introduce folk to the hills. One of the first I took my husband on when dragging him up his first hills years ago. The intrusive gunfire is reminiscent of pheasant shoots here in Norfolk at this time of year. Very weird that snow still being so powdery after so many days of low temps. Hilarious 'wild west' music for breaking trail.

Hi guy's. Lovely winter walk in the crunchy snow. Fab footage as usual. Great when you went through the ice in the tarn! Couldn't help but laugh me socks off, after all, we've all done it sometime or another. No sympathy from Tracy, stood there splitting her sides laughing ! Well Andy, this is my favourite part of The Lakes, as ya know, Braithwaite Village, Barrow. All around Coledale, Newlands ,Keswick, just magical 😊 now i remember a spoff version on the fil titanic,when it ssid its only a small iceberg, so when you said the Tarn was ,in your own words " solid as a rock" errrr😂😂😂 Tracey laughing in the background, bloody priceless 😂😂! Seriously though it must have made ya feel bloody cold 🥶 great walk this, definitely in warmer weather for me personally 👍 regards to you,Tracey & of course Billy Bob alias The Rockstar 🐶🐕❤🎉
