Barry seems like one of the nicest guys in the world. Self-deprecating too, being a top pro in such a difficult era is not easy and he's done well in the 2nd half of his career. Good man, Barry.

I agree. 90s Hendry play today with these conditions we wouldn’t be discussing who’s the greatest. He’d be miles ahead. Tournament wins and centuries made .

As me and my Dad always say.. Barry is someone NO ONE wants to meet in rounds 1 or 2.. No matter who he is up against.. He's probably the worst one you could draw in the opening stages.. but he tightens up in finals and if he can sort that out.. He'll win a load more of events.. He's easily good enough to be in the top 4...

I remember the final against Ronnie as the first time I really watched the world championship in detail. Whereas I had at first been interested mostly in Ronnie's matches, as I think is the case for many newcomers to the sport, I actually started rooting for Barry in the final. Not necessarily to win, but at the very least to keep pushing and making it a hard-fought match. I think that match is when I started to appreciate the rest of the game, not just potting balls. Of course that's still the essence, but I realised the intricacies of going about achieving that goal in a more tactical, methodical and disciplined way. Nowadays I'd say my love for all aspects of the game is much more balanced. An inch-perfect safety shot can be breathtaking, as well as the escape or counter-safety. The seeds of that more mature outlook on the sport were probably planted in that final.

Now there's so many tournaments, I think they can get away with less practice. When there was only 6 a year, they had to practice more. Might explain why there was a period when players were peaking in their 20s and struggling in their 30s, but can now win tournaments into their 40s.
