I always like "weekend in new england" I have loved Barry since Mandy. I have followed him all along his journey. I live in Australia and I'm afraid he doesn't get a good response here. The news papers all give him a bad time. Doesn't matter to me, cause I still love him. I am a dialysis patient and I have just found out that I am near to the end. I love one of Barry's songs which I am going to have at my funeral. Thanks again for all of your music Barry. I have enjoyed listening to them all over the years. I will always live this man I'm 63 and when I was 13 or 14 I adore this man and will always adore him I will never met him but I always felt this man was always something special. It is better for everyone, homosexual or heterosexual, to be discrete about their personal relationships. Manilow is no hero for "coming out". I've been a fan since when Mandy came out. I especially liked how he coupled Mandy with Could it be Magic, using a Chopin prelude to bring them together. My absolute favorite even today. As far as Barry being gay. I kind of knew it, but where the subject was never really broached outright, I never fully knew until I saw the article in People magazine 10 years ago.

Here’s a story I heard years ago…… Before the premiere of the Odd Couple tv series, Tony Randall was interviewed by TV guide and what he said to the interviewer was kinda shocking…… Randall said that the Odd Couple was about a homosexual relationship! Think about it! Remember the opening how the announcer posed the question, can two grown men share an apartment without driving each other crazy? I found out Barry was gay when I heard he’d gotten married to another man, but it really didn’t surprise me since part of his resume was working in a gay bath as an entertainer….. I saw him in person and all I did was enjoy his music he performed in his concert, not worry about who he’s romantically involved with….

You mean Manilow is GAY? Like we couldn’t have guessed? Let me attempt to open your eyes. I am a man who has been happily married (TO THE SAME WOMAN!) for almost 50 years. But to Barry, I’ll say this: most of us don’t care! Either you like his music or you don’t (personally, I DON’T!). Sorry, Barry. But working in Radio and Television nearly all my life, I’ve had a number of gay friends, including one of the most brilliant Chief Engineers it’s ever been my privilege to work with. Can I tell you a little secret? THEY’RE JUST LIKE ANYBODY ELSE!!! Except maybe a bit more intelligent, at least as far as the guys I’ve known go. I look at it this way: as long as a gay man isn’t trying to put the moves on me, I DON’T CARE IF HE’S GAY! I’ve known a few lesbians too, and have found them to be great friends, and some of the nicest women I’ve ever known. As far as I’m concerned, a person’s sexual preference (which is something they’re born with) makes NO DIFFERENCE as far as what kind of person they are goes. I’ve found that taking a person at face value (as long as they’re being honest with you) has made for many good friends. So if someone has decided not to let someone else’s sexual preference bother them, both people may find they’re embarking on one of the best friendships they’ve ever had. And to heterosexual people who are “weirded out” by gay people, I say, “It’s time to grow up!”.
