I was subbing in a high school band class for a few days. They played "Don't fear the reaper". When they got done I said, "it needs more cowbell". They had no idea why I was laughing, or what I was even talking about. So I gave them KZbin homework. The next morning they played it again, with lots more enthusiasm, and the student with the cowbell was dancing all over the room. I wish I'd got that on video.

I heard that "The Continental" sketch was written for a different hollywood big name guest host, but he turned it down because it was so text heavy and involved a complicated coreography with the camera, so that actor got afraid to do it live. But not C. Walken. He began his career on stage, and he allways dreamnt of doing musicals, therefore complex coreographies are ok for him. He was not afraid of doing "The Continental" live, and it became a SNL classic.

"My" SNL was from its debut show in 1975 with the original, incredible cast including Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtain, John Belushi, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. SNL has had its peaks and valleys over the decades, and has had other outstanding casts. So many comedians caught their rocket to fame here in these great ensembles. I think most of these young actors/comedians felt like they had "made it to the big time" when they landed a spot on that cast. What a dream come true for them.
@nodak814 күн бұрын
"had" is the operative word. I grew up watching it every single week in the 80's/90's but man it started to suck in the 2000's. Haven't been able to get through an episode in years now. Lame jokes and even lamer cast members.
@helenespaulding75624 күн бұрын
@@nodak81 too concerned with offending people, I imagine. SNL used to be "edgy"....That's why is was on late at night.....It was an "adult" show...albeit younger adults who had the energy to stay up to midnight to watch. Which I had in 1975. 😁

Will Ferrell said that he was changing for the skit back stage and someone had left that 3 sizes too small shirt for him and he had no choice but to put it on and head on out. He had had a better fitting shirt in the practice runs for the skit... But yea, this is legendary. I gotta have more cowbell! If you want more SNL stuff to react to you should go to "Washington's Dream 1 & 2" to start. Those to are modern classics from the past year plus. There are so many good ones though. You could pick skits from the same time period as the bands you are reviewing.....It actually gives insight into the zeitgeist of the popular culture throughout the five decades it's been on. In addition to this skit, you would probably find many of the "Wayne's World" skits hysterical....especially if you've seen the movie. They did a skit with Aerosmith that was damn funny.
