“I gotta turn this up”. That’s exactly what I said when it first played on the radio (WNOR 99 out of Virginia Beach), but the stereo in my truck couldn’t get near as loud as I wanted. Always loved this song.

"Heartbreaker", "We Belong", "Fire and Ice" & "Invincible" are excellent songs too!! and of course, her live performance of "Hell Is For Children."

One of my fav songs by her is Hell is for Children, a song she wrote to increase awareness of child abuse. It's a somewhat brutal but very powerful song with lots of emotion.
@StuartistStudio19645 күн бұрын
"Hell is For Children" is a thought provoking song about the very difficult and heartbreaking topic of child abuse and neglect. It's not the usual rock as entertainment song, but rather one to bring light into the darkness.

Great reaction as always! Love this song! I saw her on this tour in November of 1988. It was one of my first rock concerts. I was 17 years old. She performed at the Franklin Pierce College Fieldhouse (now University) in NH. A very small venue, but she performed as if it were an arena. I worked my way to the front of the stage! Rhythm Corps opened and hung out with everyone after the show.

Benatar trained as on operatic soloist. But then this little lady switched over to rock and exploded onto the airwaves with the power of vocal artillery with songs like "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" & "You Better Run" among the others listed. Pat Benatar set a high standard for lady rockers who followed her and stands at the top of the heap.

Pat wrote this while pregnant with her first daughter, Hailey I think is her name. Pat and Neil took like 5 or 6 years off to start their family, this was her first single coming back.

👍 This particular song is a rocker! Yes, I agree there are other great songs by Pat Benatar ❣️ but it always feels good to rock🎉.

Pat had been on about a 3 year break before this song was recorded & released. Pat had given birth to her & Neil's first child during that stretch of time. This song was/is often an opening song for them at concerts/events. Unfortunately, this was Pat's last Billboard charting song, but it was still nominated for a grammy! Pat's vocals are superb. She has many other excellent songs yet to be explored, and her & Neil are still rockin today❣️ Thank you for this one.🎉

I grew up in the 80s and was a fan of Pat, but I had never seen this video before. I may have heard the song without really listening to the lyrics. So glad you reacted to this one where I actually paid attention more closely. The messaging is on point. Maybe it is something I needed enough time and life experience to appreciate. It is fun to go back to the classics with the perspective of younger generations pointing out things that I didn't realize influenced my musical preference so much, particularly the dramatic "anthem" as well as the chanting aspects of many of my favorite high energy songs. They were perfect for parties, clubs, or anytime you wanted to get pumped up. 🤘

When I saw her live 15 years ago they opened with this song. Mid ways through the next song a couple comes in late and sits beside us. The girl says "I hope we got here in time, have they played 'All Fired Up' Yet?" Ouch! 'Suffer The Little Children/Hell Is For Children' or 'Outlaw Blues' next maybe? Best of the season. Cheers.

@rmacdougallaliasdogviticus Ouch is right. I'm pretty sure they usually use All Fired Up as an opener. Bummer for that couple.

She Rocked Big-Time, you guys just have not heard enough of her catalog. Her albums were filled with rockers but she would have several ballads or mid-tempo numbers, amongst unique and stylish songs that often became hits. BUT when they put the peddle to the meddle, they could bang with the best of them. See their 1983 Concert in the New Haven Colosseum for a totally killer set, do Heartbreaker Live from it for them at their rocking apex. Neal Geraldo, her husband and lead guitarist since they started a band in the 70s, just totally rips on Heartbreaker there, he unleashes his inner Pete Townsend to epic effect. You have to check it out sometime, I saw it live and it freaked us all out! Enjoy. 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎶🔥

If you want to react to someone so tiny yet so powerful, go back to the early 1970s and react to Suzi Quatro. Suzi predates Benatar, Joan Jett & the Runaways (Who copied Suzi's look), Debbie Harry and others. She's from Detroit, moved to England and became a worldwide sensation -- except in her home country because radio didn't know what to do with her. In the US, she's best known as Leather Tuscadero, a recurring character on the TV series, "Happy Days" and had a pop hit duet called "Stumbling In". She was the first female lead singer who was also a bass player. "Can the Can", "Devil Gate Drive" are good places to start. There is an excellent documentary on her life called "Suzi Q".

This was the end of her charted song success. IMO, her songs were becoming cookie cutters of her earlier songs. Times were changing and big hair bands and new jack swing music was on the forefront. Check out her earlier songs Precious Time, Anxiety (Get Nervous), and Hell is For Children. Thanks. 😊.

Phil and Samatha- You are doing a terrific job with your song reactions.I would love for you to react to the song “Pieces of Dreams” by Johnny Mathis.The Live version from the Tobight show.Johnny was Barbra Streisand’s favorite singer when she was younger. She has said of him:”Thereare good singers; there are hand ful of truly great singers; and then there is JohnnyMathis”.He is the third best-selling recording artist of the past century behind Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.
