I would call this a mashup of two different songs and singers arranged to complement each other perfectly. Luciano did a bunch of duets with different people, highlighting the other performers perfectly. Hard to do but really shows how versatile he was. These concerts were for charity. This one with Brown is wonderful.

It’s not a mash up of 2 different songs they are both singing the same song….Pavarotti is singing the same words as James but translated to Italian!!! If it’s that it’s a mash up of soul and opera… then yes in that way it’s a mash up
@FavoriteMovieDate

@@ASaaaxxx I read elsewhere that it was a different song, and the music and phrasing seem to support that. However, I do not speak Italian so if I was wrong about that I apologize. In any case I still think it’s wonderful.

Incredible duet, every time I watch this video I get goosebumps. In this performance, Pavarotti had recently passed away, his father was certainly not at 100%, he is even singing sitting down. James Brown, the godfather of Funk, is fantastic despite his age. Check any live performance and enjoy not only his energetic voice and of course his dances and unique impossible movements that Prince masterfully copied. Keep on rocking Greetings from Barcelona ❤

I think you worded it wrong, saying "In this performance, Pavarotti had RECENTLY PASSED AWAY," How could Pavarotti be "in this performance," if he had "recently passed away."? You say "his father was certainly not at 100 % Did you mean that Pavarotti passed away shortly after this performance? Sorry, your comment is confusing.

@@patticrichton1135 - Yes, confusing! This concert is from May 28th, 2002 (Ten benefit concerts were held between 1992 and 2003.) Pavarotti's father had died just days before, on May 24, 2002...less than five months after he lost his mother. He is understandably emotionally and physically weary during this concert compared to earlier ones. And yet...what a performance. Pavarotti died from pancreatic cancer on September 6, 2007.

Both fantastic and this collaboration was incredible! Pavarotti in his career had 165 standing ovations and if you search on YT "Pavarotti Furtiva Lacrima" you will see that the standing ovation lasted for 17 minutes!! Pavarotti was standing on the stage for the whole time waiting for the applause to go out before to continue.

I have to correct you the 165 curtain calls was for a single performance, a world record Pavarotti has retained to this day. He had many more ovations than 165 throughout his entire career oh and the aria you mention is actually called Una Furtiva Lagrima.

I was introduced to James Brown at 11 yro in '83 at Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam in Nashville, which can be seen here crazily enough, blew my mind when found it, but check out Charlie Daniels & James Brown Vol Jam '83 (btw, venue also was used last concert scenes in excellent classic Loretta Lynn biopic movie, "Coal Miner's Daughter" if anyone cares😅?) My 1st concert was in 1980. My older sis took me to see Alice Cooper (when he was GREAT, before he came back in '86 & turned into what you see & hear today!), so was already a lil concert-going veteran😅, but Brown blew my mind! So I got into Brown & my fave was always It's A Man's World. Well, when back in Nashville in '96, heard he was playing the legendary Mother Church (an actual old church!) of Country Music & original home of The Grand Ole Opry, & decided to go. None of my mostly southern white friends cared, & not minding at all going to concerts alone, I went down with money for cheapest seats in house, $25, since broke & a small venue. When I got to ticket booth & said I just needed one ticket the guy said, is your lucky day! Said needed to fill an empty seat up front & got FRONT-ROW CENTER STAGE!!!!🤘😂 I also loved John Belushi growing up so was thinking about scene in The Blues Brothers with him in church as well whole time, but got to literally look into the Godfather of Soul's eyes whole show & probably less than 10 ft away! And of course highlight of show was It's A Man's World!!! Yes, my friends, I am Blessed! ✌🌎❤

This was recorded in 2002. James Brown passed away in 2006 and Luciano passed away the following year in 2007. Both were at the end of their careers as well as their lives and still sounded so powerful. Luciano also did duets with rocker Bryan Adams (O Sole Mio) and Celine Dion (I Hate You Then I Love You). Both songs are well worth listening to. He also did a live duet with George Michael (Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?)"

I’ve looked at this about 10 times starting about 5 years ago. It is so magnificent it almost make me cry. To see these 2 greatest singers from 2 different worlds is amazing. This is the best concert I’ve ever witnessed. This is a side of James Brown I didn’t know existed and I have watched and listened to his every record for 60 years. I know this song very well but never heard this version. I’ve seen Pavarotti do duets with other black singers, but they don’t touch this I think it was because the both of them equally contributed to the singing. James Brown wrote it. James songs usually were the kind that made you dance. I always said if you can’t dance off of James Brown you just can’t dance. It’s hard to believe that these two aren’t familiar with the Godfather of Soul.

@@Spo-Dee-O-Deeyeah like the New York tines was ever reliable 😂😂😂😂. Only one of Pavarotti's performances was pre recorded, his very last one in which he was much too sick to perform live. He collapsed several times trying to record his last performance. Oh and he was only ever unreliable when he was involved with the manager who abused him and forced him to do more work than he was physically capable of. You shouldn't speak of things you know nothing about, everyone who worked with Pavarotti said he was phenomenal to work with and the kindest, sweetest person ever.
@VinVonVoom

@@PaulDA2000 You're right, it wasn't pre-recorded, but it _was_ post recorded. They were both singing live but some of Pavarotti's vocals were dubbed in post. You can hear the unedited vocals in alternate broadcasts (if you look up "Pavarotti & Friends 2002 for Angola (Pt. 2) - Original Broadcast RAI" you'll find it). James wasn't dubbed at all though. In the alternate audio you can hear a dude in the audience go "JAMES BROWN YOU F*CKING ROCK!" after the song's over which I love.

Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli singing "Time To Say Goodbye". Totally magical! Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker singing the Oscar winning "Up Where We Belong" in Antwerpen. Here you will see the complete admiration of one singer for another Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel singing "Don't Give Up". Absolutely unique. Shirley Bassey and Neil Diamond almost making love to each other whilst singing "Play Me". Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran singing "The Joker and the Queen". Annie Lennox and David Bowie singing "Under Pressure" at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.

He held up the four James Brown that is that forgiving Luciano hug because Luciano's the king of the four seas. Luciano couldn't read music by the way imagine that. There's all kinds of archival footage of and photos of them at the opera house and Luciano feeding the conductor and everybody and playing tricks and games and just giving a snapshot of the man's personality and I'm so jealous of anybody got to hang out with him. I'm jealous of people who got to just meet him I mean that would have been the highlight of my life. Luciano Pavarotti doing Caruso I don't know maybe it's sentimental but the danger makes a a guy tattoo the name is familiar Family's last name is Caruso so Grandpa always had a finity for the real Caruso and every time I hear it I just think of my grandpa and his story. Leaving your home your mother your father your cousins everybody you know everything you know to come to a country where they're going to treat you extremely bad for a couple decades oofta anyway😂 two legends my goodness
