Once the gates are up, everywhere you should see less of both...how many homeless people have the ability to pay to be on BART... Drugs is a different issue but related ..again...should reduce the incidents of both by having better access controls... Cops are a very expensive way to clean up the system...but then having more patrols and fare enforcement checks will help...

What I notice some people are doing is one person uses their Clipper card to tag in and open the new gate and then hold the gate open to let 10 people run through. I saw this recently at the Civic Center station with the new gates and about 30 seconds after the fare evaders ran through, two BART police officers came and I asked one if they saw the fare evasion to which he replied "Oh no...we were on break..." C'est la vie. I think you can crawl under the gates if you really tried but it's quite a squeeze though not impossible. I'm just glad it makes everything more difficult.

Yep, more fare evasion overall to boost the revenue and lower the crime and harassment of law abiding passengers and then lower the fares overall like in half. They keep raising fares on honest people because it's easy to do like raising taxes while all the fare evaders are ignored because it's too much trouble. The BART Board needs to understand they are running a transit agency and not a social welfare system.
