Here's what I can't wrap my head around. After $1.1M in registration fees and $717,000 in gas taxes, how the hell is New Hampshire bringing in $365 million , just from snowmobiling. No, it's not the goggles.
@seanwebb6055 жыл бұрын
Are you sure? Have you seen the goggles? They are really nice. Like Air Jordan Goggles. You can goggle in ways you have never goggled before. People go goo goo for these goggles.
@LabTech415 жыл бұрын
They didn't spell it outright, but I can explain it. I personally call it 'the hot dog economy'; there's probably some economic term for it, but that's how I choose to think about it. Basically, most people like hot dogs, but when you think about it, the sausage itself is usually the least expensive element of the equation when you break it down by item. What makes the hot dog seller his money isn't selling the sausage, it's selling all the elements that make a hot dog a package deal: the bun, the condiments, maybe some fries or onion rings, then there's the drink and so on and so forth; by the end of the day, you've spent the lion's share of your money on hot-dog related things that had nothing to do with the sausage itself. That's what they mean by saying snowmobiles bring in all that money: yeah, they're maybe spending 2-3 million on the snowmobiles themselves, but if you're coming to a different state for that, there's a ton of other things that people with either have to or choose to purchase while they're doing so. Gas for the car to get to and from the snowmobile venue, food and drinks, knick knacks and other impulse buys, things of that nature because most people don't go to another state JUST for snowmobiling, they go as part of a general vacation plan of which that activity is one of a number of things. The snowmobile is the hook that gets the attention, from which all the other actions act as accompaniments.
@beageler5 жыл бұрын
What's so hard to get? It's rooms, meals, guides, rents. Gas tax and registration fees are just the big ones going wholesale to the government, the other millions go into the local economy.

The point of Bartlett’s disdain was they spoke about 365 million dollars, and then detailed less than 1% of that total... a great way to demonstrate a lack of understanding the data you are talking about...... these guys were amateurs.

During the campaign, Leo indicated that Bartlett could be a bit of a jerk to those who didn't know him. And we saw the withering sarcastic side of him from time to time. Bartlett did not suffer fools gladly. But I also think the burdens of the presidency humbled Jed Bartlett, and made him a better man. As Abby said in one scene, "Jed, you can't save the world. But I do like to watch you try."

He's extremely bored as governor of a state without many real challenges to offer. And his snarkiness was very in-character here in general.
