Thanks. This was my first drywall relief. I will post the process of my third in a couple weeks.

Question: Can you color the joint compound with an acrylic paint color? Your work is BREATHTAKING!!!! Thank you for answer my question....
@artwithandrews7267 Жыл бұрын
Hello Ray. Yes you can paint the surface with acrylic paint. Sometimes it exfoliates due to how dry the joint compound is when applied but I would suggest using liquitex acrylic for a stronger bond. Thanks for watching and for the positive comment!

Love this! I just bought everything I need to do this and am hoping to try this tomorrow! How dry does this need to be before starting the carving process? Thanks!

Great! Joint compound is like cake frosting when not fully dry but pretty hard when dry. I like to wait until it’s fully dry, then I add water to the surface to soften it a bit for carving.

Can this be done on a painted wall? Your work is beautiful. I've been interested in bas relief for quite a while but haven't gotten up the courage to try it. It would be great on a wall in my house.
@artwithandrews72672 жыл бұрын
Yes! Although it works better on unpainted drywall. It might be good to heavily sand a painted wall with large grit sandpaper before applying joint compound so it is more receptive to sticking. Don’t be afraid to start, it can be easily removed with water if it doesn’t work and just keep trying.

Luv the style, how do you paint and seal?
@artwithandrews72673 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I actually leave them white and seal with a matte clear spray paint (light)

By having such deep cracks does the plaster become compromised?
@artwithandrews7267 Жыл бұрын
As long as the joint compound holds to the background it doesn’t compromise it at all. I do however use sculptomold for a base layer now to prevent cracking.

How did you hang the piece when done? When hanging, did you have to make a wood frame?
@artwithandrews72672 жыл бұрын
Great question! Tbh I haven’t yet. I want to make a frame with solar lights so at night it illuminates the relief. I think I might make a video showing this. Thanks for the question!

That would be SO cool! I put some tiny led tights around a painting I bought. I also put small solar lights on an old candle chandelier I have hanging on my back patio. When the sensor turns the lights on, it looks magical!

I was wondering the same thing. Sheetrock, even small pieces are heavy for me since I’m a smallish female, so I’m hoping this works on birch wooden panels.

Can you put joint compound on wood panels?
@artwithandrews72672 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I have heard that it can crack if the wood is placed in more temperature extreme environments and some wood will bow when joint compound is added.

Love you art ! What do use for base before painting ?
@artwithandrews72672 жыл бұрын
White glue (like Elmers brand) works good to seal and harden it if adding paint.

Can u please tell the components of joint compound ?
@artwithandrews72673 жыл бұрын
The compound is a complex combination often including water, limestone, expanded perlite, ethylene-vinyl acetate polymer, attapulgite, and other ingredients
@harshanarayan9903 жыл бұрын
@@artwithandrews7267 it's really complex 🤭 can u please tell whether it's gypsum powder or not ?
@artwithandrews72673 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it has gypsum powder but other brands or mixtures of joint compound might.

Harsha Narayan, you can usually buy joint compound already mixed at a hardware store, depending on which country you’re in. He also shows which brand he uses in some of his videos.

Thought I could learn something.....nope... just 20 minutes of a hand rubbing on a piece of drywall.....
