I kept getting the feeling that he is way smarter than I will ever be (and being over 70 I know I'm on the downhill side), so he must be a good enough fighter to have not gotten hit in the head much. I especially appreciated how he uses just enough words to say what he means, and no more, like a very good artist painting a picture, or musician writing a song. Enjoyable.

@Jack Burton that is not a complete or fair picture of him. Yes, he was dominated when he first met wrestling so he went away and learned some. In the truest sense of a mixed martial artist he recognised his weakness and started incorporating it into his arsenal. So, to the original comment, Bas would be a monster if he came up now. Because he would study all the things that are normal nowadays. He was always open to new things. Listen to his talks about distance, tempo, traps etc and you soon realise he is no ordinary fighter.

Bas Rutten, with the liver shots and strategic principles he displayed in the Japanese Pride fights, might be the ultimate warrior on all levels. How can a man with such courage and ferocious kicking power also be gifted with such a charismatic persona? Even sublime thinker, German philosopher Nietzsche, I'm sure would have been a Bas fan, and sat front row to watch this UFC "laughing, lion" in the arena work his craft. Keep the stories and lessons from Bas coming Chael. Respect and humility doesn't keep the fist out of your face. The fight game now day's is dog eat dog.
@maximillianalexander70525 жыл бұрын
@@limitededition328 The fight game has always been dog eat dog...that's the essence of why it is call the 'fight' game. Respect and Humility does not equate to weakness. It equates to a spiritual or emotional maturity. To stay calm in the face of danger or attack, allows one to fully realise the potential of each situation. As apposed to becoming stressed, egotistical and emotional...which inhibits the mind and as a result, the full potential of the body. The foundation of humility is control of ones thoughts and the foundation of respect is being aware of your surroundings and appreciating both, the potential for innocence and and deadly violence which exists within each surrounding you encounter. Whether you choose to adopt this ideology, or not, is of no consequence to anyone. I'm just putting it out there.

Well explained Chael!!! "No good deed goes unpunished..." Which according to Wikipedia is a commentary on the frequency with which acts of kindness backfire on those who offer them. In other words, those who help others are doomed to suffer as a result of THEIR being helpful... Bas is a legend and a hero. Even in the era of the 1 hour news cycle, the "casuals" and the keyboard warriors, there is still a requirement for a REAL man. From what you've described, and from what I have read and heard from OTHER sources, (like your good self I am consumed by ALL things MIXED MARTIAL ARTS journalism, podcasts & general social media.... Bas was "SOCIALLY HACKED" His good nature was COMPLETELY taken advantage of. I believe that ALL followers of combat sport, should propagate Mr Sonnen's description of "The Bas situation" (Chael's NOT always the BAD guy, he is ONLY Colby Covington's REAL FATHER !😉, (JOKING MOFOS!!!) I believe WE should show the legend that is Bas, that we ALL have HIS BACK too... Let's show solidarity in OUR sport, forget about the Entertainment era or Hollywood pretentiousness, don't let ONE of OUR own get fucked over... Let's just get the word out there... Please share video... Thanks again Chael

It's sad and crazy how quickly some "Fans" turned against him. If you truly followed Bas Rutten for any length of time, you would understand his honor code and character. Straight shooter always, true Martial Artist, and highly respected for a reason. Read some messed up comments about Bas during the scandal "He was in on it"..."Bas got paid didn't he"..."Bas is a liar and screwed the Fighters over"... Blah blah blah. These are people who just WAIT for you to stumble and fail, then go on attack mode. But again, if you were a true fan, you would know better. Not for ONE second believed Bas screwed the Fighters over personally, or was in on any type of scam. So glad he has shown proof, has done these recent interviews with all the details and facts. Now the same haters... CRICKETS. Good for you backing Bas Chael and telling it like it is.
