+Itz Yeah I remember UFC TV had a BJJ guy called Marc Laimon (who matt serra went on a rant regarding). Marc Laimon even beat a gracie in Jiu Jitsu.. Marc Laimon had an organisation funnily enough called Cobra Kai Jiu Jitsu.. He did some videos for UFC TV showing holds like armbars. Marc Laimon said that when he met Bas, Bas schooled him in Jiu Jitsu. And the funny thing is i've also heard that Bas has a photographic memory and taught himseilf jiu jitsu.. I remembering hearing that he saw a move done on TV and did it in a fight. I wonder who coached him, maybe nobody!

Pranesh Poojary They don't teach you (normally) in kick-boxing to be fair. It's just something some smart guys come up with and I guess is so effective because many don't expect it. Personally, I saw it in a kyokushin fight, I saw the potential and trained on that and started to use it. 100% hit rate! Always worked! A girl who practiced with me also saw it worked and at a certain point started to use it but never managed to deliver it correctly. So yes, of course it requires training to make it surprising. If one does it poorly, it's too predictable

Everybody talks about Fedor or some newer generation legend, but the first one is Bas and I dare to say even the biggest one because of his intelligent and different approach to the fight, combined with the arsenal he perfectly used: slightly taller than middle size man, heavyweight, yet not too heavy (the point where you still keep flexibility, speed and power well balanced), opened to techniques and for sure fearless. Bas can make joke at everything he decides and they're always reasonable and in the same time teach you something great.

My favorite part of Bas Rutten's blocks are that he employs the most effective parts of traditional karate blocks. While the Karate I've learned (Matsubayashi Ryu) is based off the styles of Shuri-te and Tomari-te, Bas is able to focus his style with the influences of Shuri-te and Naha-te, which allows him to capitalize on the strength of hand strikes while remaining agile with kicks.

This was the best ever video I ever saw, so simple and so effective, kicks are also more safe then exchanging blows, and the best of all it will work in a stressfull situation, I can go with maximum Power without risking so much

Bas Rutten has always had style. Undefeated after he developed his own grappling style and no one could strike harder. I love this guy.

Kevin Randleman spammed takedowns on Bas and lost a controversial decision. Then Bas immediately relinquished the UFC Heavyweight Championship to challenge Frank Shamrock for his "Middleweight" (now LHW) title. Bas knew Randleman was trouble in a rematch and Bas also knew he had Frank's number (2-1 vs him in Pancrase) so Bas tried to coax Frank out of retirement. Right after Bas left UFC competition, Pedro Rizzo debuted as "the hardest striker in UFC." I like Bas and all but don't leave facts out.

Dankjewel!
