We finish up packing for my 1930s camping trip now that I know when I'm going to be able to go and what the weather will be like. We're going to re-pack the pack as Lil Bit has a dog sitter for that weekend. So, here's the clothing I'm going to wear for a Gulf Coast Winter Camping Trip

for the wool long John's, maybe a couple of sew on press studs, if they're still made? 😊

Good idea! Its just that down here, I only need to wear them once a year, so stuff like that doesn't get onto the high priority list. Thanks for watching!

If you cut the stripes off, I think you will see all the needle holes and, perhaps, have faded shirt issues not matching the area under the patch. It could open a door to speak about your WW1 service around the campfire though. I used one of my ex-patches (Okinawa 1982) under the cover of the olive drab wood case to a fun 'military' ham transceiver I built. I really enjoy your vids Sarge.

Looking at the comments this AM, the consensus is that I should keep them, I'll need to make a slight change to my persona to justify them, but the People have spoken! You are right that having them could lead to a teachable moment and conversation, so that's a big plus. Thanks for watching!

👍 Nice view and explanation of your clothing. Regarding the stripes. If I remember your persona correctly you did serve in the Army in WW1 so the stripes might be a hold over from your service days. Again, from my soon to be 74 year old memory your persona had some difficult financial times in the 1930s again making old military clothing a viable choice. Leave the stripes on the shirt.

Well, technically, I was too old for military service overseas in WW1. Pershing limited overseas deployment to me under 40 unless they were of Staff rank or higher due to the extreme physicality of life on the front and combat. I was already employed by the YMCA overseas when the US declared War in 1917 and went on to serve with US troops in that capacity (this is modeled after an actual person). But, so far, the consensus is that I should keep them, and keep them I will. It really isn't too far beyond the pale that I would have a shirt with stripes on it though, either given as a gift in a time of need, or bought surplus, so they will stay on.

That seems to be the consensus of opinion, and I'll abide by the decision of the People. Might need to make a minor change in my persona to explain them though. Thanks for watching!
