Well, who the F cares what Ethan Ralph thinks, anyway. Baseball has been a trans-Pacific sport for decades, the Japanese embraced it even before WWII (and they're a key strategic ally of the US now, I guess no one told him). MLB teams have been importing star players from the Japan League for over 30 years. I think the Dodgers were the first team to bring over a bonafide Japan League star, and they have two Japanese stars on the team right now - one of them being Shohei Ohtani, who is generating fan interest in a way that he never did when he was playing with the Angels, just down the freeway. The Dodgers were the best fit for a collab between Hololive and an American sports team, and baseball was the most logical sport. It seems to have gone pretty well (better than I would have expected), I've read reports that even the fans who don't care about weeb stuff at took it in good humor.

It's true that Ohtani is bringing out the Japanese fans to the stadium, but 50% is way off the mark for the fan base in general (meaning everyone who follows the team, not just the people who go to the games in person).
