He came on like a shooting star and his performances injected a lot of excitement to the game . Injuries derailed his career because i really think he had the ability to have had a successful career

Very well done, and not snarky like some of the other videos about Fidyrich I've seen.

Easily my favorite baseball player of all time. I was more excited about 1976 because of him than I was in 1984. Even though the Tigers got good for a few years there, it just wasn't the same excitement as when Fidrych was around. Edit: I stopped watching baseball a long time ago. I haven't seen a full game since Cal Ripken's record breaking one. Yet every now and then I still come to You Tube to find clips of Fidrych.

Wish Fidrych could have stuck around longer, he had some real talent. There are a lot of good, young pitchers in the game today, including a couple in Detroit

I just happened to be talking to my wife about baseball, a game neither of us are huge fans of, but iwas telling her as a kid mark was who i remember being an icon. We have spent at 30 minutes rewinding this video in spots. Well done, just a great down to earth piece, tho a sad ending. Thank you

He was not crushed under his truck. He was suffocated when his sweatshirt got caught on the power take-off unit under his truck.

I still wonder what could’ve been out of mark fidyrich

Wish he could have stayed healthy. Think he was significantly overused in '76 which lead to some injuries and ultimately ended his career

Another victim of poor managing destroying a young pitcher.

He was not a one year wonder. The kid had tremendous talent. It was taken away by injuries and he battled for several years trying to come back only to get injured again and again. Till he finally retired as injuries took their tole on his talent just like they have a million other players over the years. I cant stand you kids that were born yesterday that dont know anything at all about the history of the game, and you decide to get on youtube and make a video where you make statements that are not accurate or are offensive to those of us who were alive and watched the career of the player. A one year wonder is when a guy performs way above his talent level out of nowhere for one season before reverting back to being the lesser player he always was. Fidrych was very talented and it showed in 1977 his sophmore year as he was pitching very well for the TIgers when he went down to injuries. He came back for a few starts in 1978 and in the 3 games he pitched in that year he won two of them and threw two complete games but yet again went down to injuries. But he was still very good. Still had the talent. But the arm was destroyed. It was amazing that he was able to pitch as well as he did with the injury. In 1979 he came back but by then the injury was too much to over come. He numbers in a few starts that year were horrible and then he made a few more starts in 1980 after trying to rehab again and while he was better than in 1979, he still was not the same pitcher at all he was before. At least you got some of his career correct.

I don't like the "one year wonder" tag. That sounds like a one hit wonder in music. There was no luck in his success. If not for injuries, he would have been one of the best of his generation, not some guy who caught lightning for one season. In fact, he was starting his second season exactly the same way as the first went, with 7 complete games in 11 starts, and he made the All Star team in that second season. Maybe if he didn't have to throw 31 complete games in that season and a half it wouldn't have gone like it did.
