basenjis rarely bark, tail is usually coiled and the white are at the tail tips, chest and feet. those could be mixed. Cute either way

You are judging from the breed association classification. However, probably what you classify as Basenji is one in a spectrum when compared to where the breed originates.

I love my basenji, but man, does he go from zero to a hundred and cause total chaos. Sometimes I wonder if this is like having a miniature Malinois that talks in an odd language. Very temping to try more intense training with him but I don't know...the squirrel and spaz effects...in beast mode? What do you think about basenji's doing personal protection and LE/Military training @ericandcaprithepup

@@Deoslattormally, you crouch down and don’t pay too much attention. Side eye them, don’t make direct eye contact. If they get aggressive and pounce, raise your arm to block and then push their head away. Otherwise, wit till they initiate contact, or slowly move your attention to them, some dogs are skittish and will run if you move too quickly. I volunteer at a shelter and it’s hard to befriend every dog, so we have to try really hard to.

@@Deoslatt let them roam around you. The dog can smell you from a distance, they have powerful noses. There’s no need to put your hand out, a nervous dog may also bite your hand cause it can be a little intimidating to them

These are Schensi dogs, not Basenjis. Basenjis are descended from a handful of Schensi dogs brought to the west from the Congo, specifically individuals with wrinkled foreheads and curly tails, a trait not seen in all Schensi-type dogs. Compared to true Schensi dogs, Basenjis are highly inbred and romanticized thanks to your friends at the Kennel Clubs. They had to reopen the studbook just to keep the breed from going extinct in the west from Fanconi syndrome.

@@DOMESTICDOMICILE The "Kennel Clubs" don't have anyone I would call friends. It's actually breeders of the specific dog breeds who call shots on the way they want their certain breeds to appear. I have quite a problem with much of the shape shifting they perpetuate on any given breed. For example, the amputation of tails and ears. Certain shapes of the tails. Dew claw rules and other regulations they foist upon the dogs. Hard to stomach. 🕊

I always found the fact that Basenjis do not bark like 99.9% of the dogs I've always been familiar with to be interesting. Seems to be rather convenient when sharing an attached dwelling or apartment with one or three.

@@1forVeganWorld From what I've seen they typically bark in the same manner as basenjis rather than like other domestic dogs. A brief, soft "woof" is all you'll get from them. As you said, they might make more ideal apartment dogs as a result.

Those are NOT pure basenji. Basenji are a VERY ExpEnSiVe dog breed that have a curled tail and are incapable of barking. Stop spreading misinformation

1) Basenjis can definitely bark, their barks are just much shorter and quieter than your typical house dog. 2) these are Schensi dogs, a landrace of dogs from which Basenjis are descended. 3) this is what Basenjis are supposed to look like. These dogs have been molded by natural selection, and are not plagued by major health issues as a result. 4) Basenjis on the other hand were molded by the Kennel Club, which has a track record with creating unhealthy caricatures of once noble working breeds.
