see that some are having issues with the Sony STR-DH590 sound set up dialing in the SW because the 'on screen' GUI only has limited options. have that model coming in the mail and have been reading (hearing?) all I can prior to installation. got the 5.1 Klipsch's myself to match up with this unit. a post by the cheapaudioman not recommending the unit because of this hassle has really thrown cold water on my expectations. I just may go all manual with the thing. as yet have the Klipsch's hooked up to a mini-amp (Fosi BT30D Pro) and they sound great.

I don’t have a video, but I can tell you that I had to go up into the attic, find the space between studs where I needed to go, drilled a hole into the 2x4 at the top (where the ceiling meets the wall) then snaked wire down, pulled it through the hole in the wall next to where the speaker would be mounted. 👍

Great Presentation. You noted that your receiver is located remotely in a closet. I have a similar setup. I installed a Smartcraft IR emitter to control devices (Sony A/V, BlueRay, Apple TV with my universal remote. Remote seems to be working fine and sensor is definitely receiving the signal but my new Sony DH590. receiver does not recognize the signal. Could there be an issues with difference frequencies between the emitter and the receiver?

My new Onn TV does not want to recognize the computer if the HDMI comes from the output of the reciever, only if the HDMI from the computer is connected directly to TV. Although come to think of it, in both cases I have connected the Optical cable from TV to the reciever if that makes a difference. I wonder why it would. Also when I go on KZbin which I spent most my time at, Playing youtube directly from TV and receiver, the sound is 20 times louder, than through the computer. It almost gave me a heart attack today when I happen to stumble on it. I just purchased this tv yesterday. My previous TV was able to recognize the computer either way. The previous TV had one HDMI. and this one has 4 but that just gives you 4 HDMI options. My reciever has 4 hdmi input.

Question can you use banana plugs on the speakers. Also what do you use to wall mount them?
@ealanosborne2 ай бұрын
Yes, you can use standard banana plugs with the style of speaker terminals that are on the receiver in this particular video (they’re called 5-way binding posts). With spring loaded speaker terminals, since the hole to insert the speaker wire is smaller, you’d want to get “pin banana plugs,” since they have skinnier tips. 👍

@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Klipsch Reference Theater Pack is a set of passive speakers, meaning they can’t power themselves, and need to be powered by a receiver (connected via speaker wire). Sony STR-DH590, Denon S650H are good 5.1 channel baseline receivers. 👍

Thanks
@bighands692 жыл бұрын
No you cannot have a center speaker as your system is a stereo so that means your sound is going to be two speakers only. Stereo sound does not need a center speaker and has an excellent sound on its own. Stereo is good enough for high end music systems and can be good enough for home theater. Before proper high quality 5.1 came along my home theater system was stereo and to be honest it was amazing.

A Sony rep said I could connect my Sony soundbar HT-MT 300/301 to the sony STR-DH590 for more juice in my sound is this true? Would that work?
@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
I’m not familiar with that soundbar at all, so your guess is as good as mine. The HT-MT300 doesn’t seem to have any audio outputs - just inputs - and those inputs are limited to optical and 3.5mm. The only outputs on the DH590 are from the speaker terminals or HDMI, so you’d have to get a little creative with adapters just to make it work. I’m not seeing it, but I’d love for a Sony rep to show me how it’s done, because I’d be very interested in knowing how to pull that off. 🙌

It's ok to connect 3ohms speakers to 4 ohms amplifier?
@wesvill75652 жыл бұрын
Great video, I was wondering if you can explain the "crossover frequency" and what is the optimum setpoint, I've got mine at 140 but the max setting is 160. My speakers and receiver are old (Polk 6751 and a Sony STR -DG500).
@ealanosborne2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And the crossover frequency is where you tell the receiver to split the difference between a speaker and the subwoofer. Basically where the subwoofer will take over with low frequency sound. Those Polk 6751 speakers' frequency response dips down to 40 Hz, so you typically want to set the crossover frequency 10-20 Hz above that. So I'd go with 60 Hz, for example. Make sense? 😀
@wesvill75652 жыл бұрын
Make sense, I appreciate the information. that was really helpful, I do notice a difference in the quality of the sound. By the way, does setting it up higher than 60 harm the speakers?
@ealanosborne2 жыл бұрын
@@wesvill7565 No, not at all. You could set any speaker’s crossover to 150 Hz, but then you’re robbing the speaker of some mid-low frequencies that help give it a fuller sound. THX standard is 80 Hz, so you could also test that to see if it works better in your situation.

Any pros/cons to to plugging all hdmi cables into receiver theme one from the “out” to the tv vs all connected to the tv the tv and receiver connected via arc? As in, if your equipment is capable of both, is there still a reason to do one way or the other?
@ealanosborne2 жыл бұрын
Just depends on your situation. Example: I have a media closet somewhat away from my TV, so I plug my Switch directly into my TV for a more direct connection to the Joycon controllers. Also, if you have a PS5 or XBOX Series X - since receivers have had HDMI 2.1/4K @ 120Hz problems - plugging that directly into the TV bypasses any issues like that. Otherwise, it’s usually fine to plug everything into a receiver. 👍

And is it possible to set up the receiver so that when we turn on the Roku box it “triggers” the receiver to come on automatically? Our receiver is a Marantz SR5010. Thx

For a connection using the Optical input on the receiver, would it be the same as the hdmi arc? Plug everything in the tv, then from the tv using an optical cable to the receiver optical input? Is there any difference in that setup?
@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
Audio-wise, they should sound the same. Although a lot of 5.1 AVRs nowadays are CEC compatible over HDMI which allows you to control volume and other features via your TV remote. So that’s nice, in case you don’t have line of sight to your AVR (like me, since mine is in a media closet). You can’t get CEC control over Optical. Something to consider. 👍

You can get away with 16 gauge speaker wire, but 14 is more robust (and thicker), so it will last you longer. Here’s a link on Amazon - amzn.to/3lxpvJy As far as a receiver, do you have a Costco membership? They just released the Onkyo TX-NR6050 which is 8K/HDMI 2.1, so nice and future proof. Or they also sell the Denon s760h which is equally as great. If not Costco, the Sony DH790, Yamaha RX-V6A, or Denon X1600h, although a lot seem to be out of stock right now. Supply chain issues, etc. These are all 7 channel receivers, too, so you have 2 more channels to play with if you decide to get 2 more speakers down the road. 🤘

I haven’t purchased the receiver yet but some advertise as having only 1 HDMI input. This setup would exclude me from adding any other audio source (like a turntable for music), correct?
@ealanosborne Жыл бұрын
If everything is connected to the receiver, yes - you would only need 1 HDMI cable going out to your projector. Most receivers nowadays have many HDMI inputs - at least 4, I think. And a lot come with phono input support for a turntable. So if it also has a phono input, you’re golden. 🤘

And if that doesn’t do the trick, I guess make sure on the software side of things that you have a 5.1 set up, and there is indeed a subwoofer in the system.

Thank you but i have a problem… I have a pioneer 5.1 surround system and i connect both of my ps5 and my benq projector to the receiver and it works but the sound are only coming from the projector not from the speakers

Is the BenQ projector connected to the HDMI output? Maybe also make sure HDMI Passthrough is turned off in the menu?

What is best wire speakers home theater system
@warrior15r2 жыл бұрын
Do you have a recommendation on what frequency I should set my satellites speakers and subwoofer be at? I currently have the satellites set at 110hz and the subwoofer at 120 hz. Just wondering if you recommend anything different for this klipsch theatre pack 5.1 set up. I didn’t hear you reference it in this video.
@ealanosborne2 жыл бұрын
I’d set them both to 120 Hz. I know the satellite speakers can go down to 110Hz, but a little buffer of 10Hz is good to have. 👍
@warrior15r2 жыл бұрын
@@ealanosborne Sorry but this might be a very basic question, does that mean if I set the satellites at 120hz, any frequency below 120hz will be routed to the subwoofer instead?
@ealanosborne2 жыл бұрын
@@warrior15r correct. So the subwoofer handles all the low-end audio, since those little satellites can’t go that low at all. 👍

@@ealanosborne Awesome, thank you. Makes sense. Changed satellites to 120hz. Love these speakers.

Sorry. That doesn’t ring a bell as far as problems I’ve had in the past. 🤷♂️ Very bizarre.

So whats's the real difference to using arc vs all plugged into the tv?
@ealanosborne2 ай бұрын
I would typically connect things like an XBOX or PS5 straight into the TV, since most likely your TV has better built-in video tech as opposed to a garden variety AV receiver. So it's mostly a video thing. Audio-wise, it there isn't (or at least shouldn't) be any difference in quality. But another reason to use ARC is if you prefer using your TV's built-in streaming apps, as opposed to an AppleTV 4K, Fire Stick, Roku, etc.

Hi, can the rear surround speakers be ceiling speakers?
@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
Oh sure! A lot of homes being built nowadays have speakers in the ceiling above the TV and behind the couch that are technically LCR and rear surrounds, just so they’re out of the way. Typically you’ll want to use angled in-ceiling speakers towards your couch. Those kind exist. 😄👍

@ealanosborne Жыл бұрын
@@Zero-mugi Yeah, if you’re talking about the same Klipsch 5.1 Reference Theater Pack, that needs to be powered by a receiver and connected by speaker wires. It’s not wireless or meant to plug directly into a PC like a Logitech surround sound system. Sorry.
