I heard from an older trapper who used to smear the beaver gland musk on his gloves to keep the human scent off of them. He always caught beaver faster than other guys because he didn't have to wait for the scent to wash off.

Now that was cool!! Bet there isn't too many video's out there like it. Again over heard talk of large one's going for $30, but this time it was no April Fools. I'll try to see if I can get more information for you, but just talked with another trapper last night and he said a well known buyer confirmed prices to be down. Herter's products and store's brings back memories for me also. I still have a XL Ugly Stick my parents bought me from their old store in Hallie, WI. between Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire when I was embarking on my career in Walleye Fishing. Of course I needed the top of the line Shimano reel with it also that they bought me. My career in Walleye fishing never panned out also, but I tried and still have great interest in the professional side of it.

Great video as always bud. Know it's an older one but question for anyone. Had a foothold that was tripped, slight signs of struggle and the critter got out. I assume it was a shallow catch on the foot, sounds right and any reasons why that might happen and how to avoid it? I know it's an ambiguous question without much detail but figured I'd try.
@330Maniac
@330Maniac Жыл бұрын
Good pan tension will usually fix those light catches. It assures the critter gets its foot into the trap deep before it fires

@330Maniac awesome, thank you man. I'll check the tension and see how loose or tight it is. What should I be shooting for? What kind of drowning lock do you use on a double twist wire? Your video didn't show a good shot of the drowning lock. But the wire/drowning block is a great idea to make your load lighter to the trap spot. They have a good folding kayak anchor that weighs about 2 pounds, is lighter with more gripping power to make the load even lighter. But please say where you got the drowning lock.

Knew a guy who was paid to just "get rid" of the beavers. Sat on the beavers lodge at night w a weak light w red cellophane over the lens taped to his 22 rifle. When the beavers came back he shot em in the head w 22 shorts. Cleaned out an entire colony in about 2 hours. Said they were all floating the next day. Got paid twice. Once by the landowner & again w the pelts. They may or may not hit your sets but theyre always going to come back to their lodges.

Two legholds side by side usually does not work. I have tried this many times and the second trap is always sprung. Two separate sets is the way to go.
