Basic Build Van Tour - Ford Camper Van for Overlanding and Adventure

This is a first look at our basic overland camper build for our 2011 Ford Econoline E350 van. This is just phase one of our build, and we will be doing many modifications and updates to the van in the coming months and years!

Yep definitely want to get a van, told my wife this again and she laughed and said she knew this would eventually be a part of our lives. Like the simplicity of the build. When it comes to camping this saves having to dry all your gear out when you get home. And if you have no garage, gear ends up draped all over your house... Had the thought you could use a thinner memory foam mattress and engineer some sort of futon ['pros' => 'bed & couch']

Yup exactly! Trying to dry out wet tents and gear just isn't viable for everyone. Having everything contained in the van has been wonderful for us. So many possibilities! You guys will love it. :)

Try a painters pole. That’s what I used as a curtain rod. It can extend to 3 times it’s size( two stories) so it can adjust and be secure to any size. It’s also my go pro rod lol, makes my skate videos look like a drone is filming. I also have hooks on the back door so it’s multi functional

What I ended up doing was taking a half inch piece of copper pipe and using that as a curtain rod. I used a half inch U bracket pipe strap to melt the copper pipe to the ceiling. I have two black out curtains and it works really well

With the curtain buy a rod that is not tension that loops up on the end and can be screwed then Mount it to the plywood ceiling.

Hi, Lovely video I live in Scotland and I have built a very small van. If I may, drilling 3" holes in the bed platform are good for moisture too, and your mat of course. hope that helps in any way. regards Ian

Hi Ian, thanks for the comment! We had actually considered drilling holes into the platform, but I was worried that the portions of the wood that were still in contact with the mattress might get mold. I'm sure it would have been fine, but I'm allergic to mold so we didn't want to take that risk. We would LOVE to visit Scotland! I'm about 34% Scottish and I've never been to Scotland. Some day. I couldn't understand the problem with the shower rod? Mine Just extend due to springs so the pressure keeps them in place and place curtains behind seat tied up. Nice Van

They make round bracket that attached to the side of the walls of the van and your curtain rode would fit in. Then you could leave it up all the time.

That's awesome. People overlook these old Ford vans for camping but they are great options. Much more affordable then a Sprinter van.

Have you tried a retractable clothesline to replace your curtain rod at the captains chair? We are starting to develop our camper van conversion.

If, the mattress is Comfortable, keep it. You DON'T want to skimp on a Gd nights rest.I would Lower the bed some and get rid of the moisture thing between the mattress and platform and just drill small holes for ventilation.
