Obviously, if you were living in the days of Perez Prado and La Sonora Matancera featuring Ceila Cruz, dancing the fast mambo - which is called "rumba" in Cuba, for 8 to 15 straight songs - can get your legs and feet so tired that you cannot dance anymore and sit out for the rest of your social mambo dance night at a Cuban club. That is why there was the need to slow down those fast "rumba-packed" mambos to something that people can dance to without being tired. With that, thanks to the "guajira" and "guaracha" folk dances from Cuba, these dances were incorporated as mambos in nearly half-time, and the shuffle step - the "cha cha cha", was added to make it just a little bit more exciting. This "triple step" was known as the "triple mambo," as you said it, and with observer Guy Barry, an American, seeing all of this action while in Cuba for a short time, went to the United States and spread the word there about the cha-cha, and with the help of Fred Astaire, made American rhythm cha-cha make a birth - and at nearly the same time, Monsieur Pierre from Europe saw the same things in Cuba and went back to Europe and codified the steps that was called International cha-cha. Pierre was that dancer who also made up the dance called the "square rumba."

Very helpful for first half--you made it no-fault, fun and simple. Later, tho, we needed a warning that the step was about to begin, AND on which foot/leg so we could practice along--we needed several reps to get into it! BUT you're upbeat and dissection of the moves is good. Eventually I got tired from missing steps.

The way you explained what you needed is really clear and helpful for us to understand how to make our video lessons even better for you. 😊🙌🏼 Any other suggestions? Hi Titus & LiWen, mike Durrigan (Sunnyvale) from allegro (titus from long ago) and we all met at Dance Blvd several months ago long before this crisis. Anyway the Cha cha video is absolutely great! Maybe the best introduction to basic cha cha I have seen and been on the floor for many years! I paid a price for dancing Standard and American - my Latin was put on the back burner so to speak : ( Never too late to improve and have fun …. glad to see both of you trying to stay connected to people. Be safe and healthy and hope to see you on the Dance Blvd floor when this crisis is over. Will look to view your other videos and will check out the hips video - we standard dancers can benefit from loosening our hips! best --- mike

@DanceInsanity2 жыл бұрын
Good question. The time step that we do here, is similar to the rock back part of the basic, but in the time step, you don’t put the heel down when you step back. You also have the option of dancing the timestep with the feet together and change weight (right, Left) then chasse / cha cha cha to the right. 😊 A full Basic includes a check forward with the left foot.

Hello Tytus, I’m new to ballroom dance. Would you elaborate your three levels of learning especially 2. Technique and 3. Performance? Thanks.
@tytusbergstrom5 жыл бұрын
Hi Steven! great question, thanks! when it comes to technique you want to have elements you do daily, like him action, arm styling, foot power, and so on, so you can get the new habits into your body. generally these things take time and consistency, much like learning a new language or playing a musical instrument, so you have to be willing to put in the time, and also create a feedback loop (i.e. video yourself and check your progress). as far as performance goes, once you know were the feet are going, and you have technique improving, the dancing has to convey an emotion. no emotion, usually nobody will bother watching with much interest. so performance developing the habit of bringing feeling or emotion. this three level idea isn't always the way to go for everyone, but for most it works. sometimes with raw feeling you can sort of get the energy to create technique (but it usually takes a pretty extroverted confident person). anyway, hope this helps and let me know how you are progressing. Tytus

How do you know when to use this dance? What dance do you use for what song? Why use a certain dance over others? So could you let me know, thanks love your channel
@DanceInsanity6 жыл бұрын
@Alfie Thomas Hello there! Good question. Songs that have a 4/4 timing with 110-120 beats per minute can be danced as a cha cha. You can listen to the song playlists for different dance styles on our channel (such as this cha cha playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLsyf2ALTZkhcwJIalQV4dkPOXSfGfFDJl ) to get a sense of what songs can be used for which latin dances. You would choose what dance to do according to the song's tempo/ vibe/ rhythms. Sometimes, certain songs can be danced as different styles, for example, a cha cha song can at times be a west coast swing etc. Once you understand the different dance styles, their rhythms and character, then it becomes easy to recognize what dance to do. :))

Hi Dance Insanity- what is the lead for the Hand to Hand? Is the follower supposed to "feel" the leader stepping back? New Yorker is easier, moving the arm forward plus the momentum of stepping in the same direction. Thanks!
@DanceInsanity3 жыл бұрын
@DebraP yes, follower should feel it if the leader leads it. 😉 Leader takes his connected hand with him as he rocks back. No extra "leading" needed if he keeps his arm more still. Try it out. Are u leading ?

LiWen, where did you get that skirt? I'm a beginner dancer and I have been looking all over to try and find decent ballroom practice wear. I want a simple skirt/dress without any tassels or fringe, and I just can't find anything!
@DanceInsanity6 жыл бұрын
yulia polyakova hello! That's from forever21. I like this particular one cos there's some shape to the bottom of the skirt and it's also stretchy!! That combo tends to be a little trickier to find. Let me know if you find something there!! 👍🏼 Are u starting social/ competitive dancing?

PES_ JR nice! You're right - dancing should be fun. 🙌🏼 Did u just start dancing because of this charity event? What dance(s) are you performing?
@ProEvoKing6 жыл бұрын
@@DanceInsanity yeah I did the same charity event last year but as I had no partner to carry on dancing after the event I never got back into it until they asked me to take part again this year..... I'm doing the cha cha, the swing jive, a waltz and a line dance. I really need some new moves for the swing jive though, I only know like 5 basic moves.

@charlessmith2636 жыл бұрын
I know some of the technique in this dance. On the "1", especially when you do side chasses or forward or back chasses, I would need to settle the hips on the "1" on the weighted part of the foot. And except for the "and" beats, the cha-cha locks are taken on a straight leg, and most other single-beat footwork actions are also taken on a straight leg. Also, the cha-cha-locks--the second step (the "and")--the legs need to be either closed up to the legs or in Latin cross position. If the "and" happens with the feet too wide apart (except in cases where you want to do a straight quarter-split 2nd position and do stationary movements), then you are not doing it right.
