These drills have another interesting benefit. My husband uses a machete daily in his work and has long since incorporated these same techniques and drills into his work. In the US, the machete is not given much attention in terms of its original intent as an agricultural tool yet these techniques, when adapted for use with a working machete greatly minimize the effort and maximize the return (striking power). Any one who has worked with a machete to any degree knows angle cuts is what gets it done in the bush. When cutting tall grass here in Florida with a 22"+ blade, you need to remember that blade has to both start and stop. The momentum you build has to be stopped or redirected. Hence, the benefit of using these techniques and drills to improve your work.

Paul, I must say that your videos are amazing. I've been practicing Martial Arts for a few years now and I'm just getting into Kali. So far, I've started by studying your videos and watching carefully to help my techniques along. Boy, do they give your arms quite the workout. I've enjoyed my experience thus far and after studying and perfecting your techniques, I go back and teach them to my little girl. She enjoys every minute of it as well. I just want to say thank you and that I'm very appreciative of your instruction and that I look forward to studying more of your material in the future.

Great exercises! They will help with flowing from one attack to the next. I really like the last one. It gets people and their wrists used to the florette or rebate. if anyone knows European swordsmanship and probably many other swordsman out there I bet.

99mabe If you want to "play" at home you have to buy 4 maybe on the net, in schools you can borrow it for the first lessons but i think you want a few for yourself...and in normal case you can buy them in the school or meet people there who sell some. In that case you can use the best for you (thickness, weight, straight rattan etc), from the net you have to take what they send.

Hi guys. I‘ve got a question. I am lefthanded. Should I modifie the sequences? For example, doing 4, 1, 2, 3; instead of 1, 2, 3, 4? Thinking that most of the times I will be facing righthanded people. Thanks a lot.
@kalicenter9 жыл бұрын
Hi Hector, On the Fluid Diagonal Strikes for Lefties, The number 1 starts over the left shoulder. The numbering 1, 2, 3, 4 are based on the anatomy of the strikes body to weapon relationship. Keep training! :)
@drhkleinert32459 жыл бұрын
Hector Alejandro Ruiz Hahaha...many FMA guys have problems with left handed attackers, because all of their moves and disarms are hard or not to do. In german Modern Arnis its a part of the graduation and Training to fight with and against lefthanded attacks. Its hard to to that for righthanders. But all things he shows here are possible with left or right, its the move not "i must do it from here to there"...

What are the training swords called? Is there a specific name for those swords?
@drhkleinert32459 жыл бұрын
Winston Khan Toys. No, serious, they are called Wooden swords, trainingswords etc. The different names are by the forms of the blades but i never heard that a trainingsweapon has an own name, just like the rubber knifes etc.

Just found this. Thank you! I have a couple of questions. I know this can be quite the workout for your arms, shoulders, and chest. I need to rebuild some of my upper body strength and want something that has a practical application as well. My collar bone is not connected to my shoulder anymore so my strength has deteriorated. Will this help rebuild my strength without damaging a previous injury? I understand there will always be limitations, but I need to get active at some level again. Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of shorter sticks and longer sticks besides the difference in reach? I plan on working on a "wood dummy" outside and using strong polyresin escrima sticks regularly. Any advice or assistance would be truly appreciated.
@kalicenter6 жыл бұрын
Using proper striking mechanics can help with shoulder issues. The standard stick length is between 26 and 28 inches with a diameter of 7/8 to 1inch. Material should be rattan which is healthier for the joints during any impact training.
@tac22786 жыл бұрын
Are there any specific techniques that could focus on the shoulder that would build strength? Thanks again for the advice and guidance.
