I trained with Kevin when I lived in Montreal back in 2004. I can honestly say, that I have used some of the things I learned from Kevin to save my life in real life fight situations.

There is another component to that type of knock out "cervical twist". Question: have you ever injured your hand from punching? Thank you in advance for your answer.
@Combatprofessor
@Combatprofessor Жыл бұрын
No . I do a lot of makiwara. But I don’t advocate bare knuckle fist to head. I prefer palms.

Good video!! Question I've heard of if you deliver a proper strike to the neck (punch, hammerfist knife hand) etc. It would hit the carotid or jugular and cut off blood flow to the brain resulting in knockout. Is that true or is that myth?
@Combatprofessor
@Combatprofessor 2 жыл бұрын
100 percent true but less about the blood and more about neurological effects. I would suggest watching this clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZeuipVmmrx-lbc

Also if you watch this clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4XUmGuZq7pob7c You can see the difference in effect between striking the throat, wherein people tend to gag and stop from pain and breath loss, to strikes to the side of the neck, wherein subjects get knocked out from neurological overload.

@@Combatprofessor those are perfect examples of why it's so dangerous. As you said in your video it's very irresponsible. The only time I would see them being needed is if someone is really trying to either hurt you or kill you. The amount of damage a strike to the neck can cause is unbelievable.
@Combatprofessor

@@colemorrow3333 I fully agree . So many teachers teach it like a party trick. It’s so irresponsible.

@@Combatprofessor yeah for sure. It's good to finally have an instructor that A has zero nonsense teaches techniques that are scientifically proven, and has field experience using those techniques. But also teaches the devastating effects they can have if you use these techniques. We need more instructors like you.

There's one thing that hardly ever gets discussed: No matter if it's a KO shot, a hit to the side of the neck, or a choke: how long can you expect someone to stay KO? If it's like in the movies, then he's probably in serious condition, if not a full-on vegetable... Similarly, what should you look out for signs when you see someone with a concussion in order to judge if he needs to see a doctor? Personally, I've once seen an old lady fall off her bicycle and land first on her head (no helmet) and make a thud sound hitting the asphalt. She stood up dazed and was about to pick up her bicycle and drive on. I told her that she should stop, but she was looking right through me and didn't seem to notice me at all. She then rode off as if she was seriously drunk. I thought to myself that she might die at home, but there was no way in hell that I chase her down and restrain her against her will hoping to get her an ambulance (would be legally an issue, plus it could make her condition worse, and I would most likely need to pay the ambulance). It was quite annoying for me, but not the first nor last time that people didn't want to listen to me when it really mattered... Some people you just can't help... (especially those that have addictions or mental issues) and you can only watch their slow walk to disaster.

What are your views on a very hard front palm strike to the forehead? I realize that the external damage is insignificant due to the thickness of the skull, but will the brain bounce inside the skull (back-front) sufficiently to create the KO effect?
@Combatprofessor
@Combatprofessor 2 жыл бұрын
Any hit the head can shake the brain. I’ve used a downward palm to the top of the head while working security a few times to intercept people standing out of chairs or getting up off the ground. We term it a brain stun. There was no knockout but a good stun. I think the forehead strike ( what we call the evangelical palm lol) would have more likelihood of knockout but what would the advantage be over palming the eyes and nose or point of chin? I think you need to take the targets you have available cut it would be my first choice .

@@rodvan-zeller6360 I’m not a fan of saying “will”. There are no guarantees . It definitely could injure the neck but there are some resistant humans out there who I’ve hit with everything I had who kept coming when I was a bouncer.

Yes that one is great too. Same effect as a hard uppercut but it also steers the head and intercepts attacks while being a high probability takedown. In fact I prefer open handed strikes and elbows to fists.

Bruh, you may benefit from looking into research on brain trauma caused by side impact air bags (vs front air bags), you'll find you can add what you discover to your understanding & more techniques become available..

I’m not saying you can’t get knocked out from side shots. The download covers temple, carotid sinus , brain stem and a host of targets. I’m talking about basic targets. This is one. Don’t assume an entire system is consolidated in a three minute video. Bruh.
