What is your opinion on oiling the inside of the barrel? ( on just a standard shield 9mm or any normal semi auto pistol) I've seen so many different opinions on whether to do it, or not to do it. I'd really like input from someone with qualifications such as yours. I have a 9mm shield plus but haven't been able to get any good knowledgeable info on this. Thanks in advance
@scooter5940
@scooter5940 2 жыл бұрын
@@Weazel615 you can oil inside the barrel if you are not going to use the gun for “a while”. That my be a few weeks or a few months, depending on how it is stored. The only point of oil inside the barrel is corrosion protection - it is not fr functionality. So if you oil, make absolutely sure to remove it before firing the weapon.

In case you are wondering what the tatoo in his right hand says, it's just an ancient Greek saying. "Μολων Λαβε" is actually a Greek phrase that Ancient Spartans said as a reply to the Persians during the battle of Thermopyles (the 300 movie), when the latter requested the 300 Spartans of Leonidas to deliver their weapons. It actually means "Come and get it".

One quick way to evenly and neatly apply oil to the the slide channels is to apply a couple of drops to a bent pipe cleaner and run the bent part along the inner grooves. I cut 6" pipe cleaners in half and bend them as needed; tossing them with each cleaning. They provide perfect little brush surfaces for light and precise oil application to small parts as well.

This is a great video, for beginners or anyone, really. Some folks want to make this too hard - I don’t mind cleaning and revolvers take longer, but I don’t want to spend an hour-plus cleaning my semi-autos. If you are the type that wants every last bit of carbon off ever part of your gun, then bless you, but it’s nice to see that is not necessary. Only thing I do differently is to use a bit of gun grease, not oil, on the frame rails - and I run a dry bore snake through once or twice after I am all done. Prolly not necessary but only takes a minute.

Thanks, Santee! This video was actually just to help my cousin clean her new pistol, but I decided to do it as a KZbin video.

Thanks for the video. Very informative and easy to do. I felt comfortable cleaning my firearm for the first time. The spring seems to move around a bit. I managed to put it back in where it belongs snugly, but the springs themselves if you press on them sort of move. Should this worry me?
@GunsOfTheWest
@GunsOfTheWest 4 жыл бұрын
It’s nothing to worry about. The main spring is just wedged into place, so a little movement is normal. Thanks for watching!

Great video! Very helpful. Do you just rinse the toothbrush and wire brush in water after you're done cleaning? Also, how do you know when to replace the two brushes? Thank you.
@GunsOfTheWest
@GunsOfTheWest 5 жыл бұрын
I actually don’t rinse them with anything when I’m finished. I just wipe the toothbrush on the cleaning rag and I don’t do anything with the wire brush. The wire brush will last a very long time, but the toothbrush needs to be replaced. You’ll get several cleanings with one cheap toothbrush and you’ll be able to tell when the bristles get too soft to do the job. Thanks for watching!
