If your FIVR voltage cannot be changed, your CPU voltage control may be locked by your laptop's manufacturer. You can check your PC's model online and see if anyone has come up with solutions to enable voltage controls on your laptop's model, such as through BIOS settings or flashing a different version BIOS. Some laptops though, you won't be able to get past the voltage control lock. In that case, you won't be able to undervolt, but you should still be able to play around with the other settings mentioned in the video (such as adjusting Power Limits (PL))

Some people dig straightforward videos that lasts up to 3 minutes at most, while some desires for detailed tutorials that lasts up to 20 minutes on average. This however, stands between the two and the one I liked the most. Every significant feature is explained briefly and steps ain't gonna mess with an amateur's brain. No convulsive intros, no plugs, no bullshit - just your rare detailed tutorial that wouldn't eat too much of your precious time. Undervolting may seem overwhelming and intimidating, but with the right videos like this, you'd be giving your laptop's CPU one hell of a favor. I've nothing to do so I decided to write a short review as send-off to my consistently 93°C CPU temp while gaming.

My God, I should've done this *months* ago! Went from resting temp of 70 down to 50, and load temp of 100 down to 75-80, with practically no performance loss. Hopefully, my long trials of random, seemingly incurable framerate drops are over. It's worth noting though that TS has updated its UI since this video, and things seem to have been moved, changed or renamed. An updated video *might* be warranted, but I got along just fine myself. :) Thanks so much!

Great Video that helped me get better gaming performance. But I'm a bit confused about the TS Bench. I have a i7-8565U and can undervolt my CPU Cache to ~-90mV till i start getting Errors. But when i started to undervolt my Core more i was able to get -250mV with no Errors, but was afraid to test further. So my Question is: Can you test with TSBench if you are stable if you only increase the undervolting for the core but not the cache? Since -90mV and -250mV seem like an insane difference. Great video! Best video I’ve ever seen in regards to explaining the settings and what they do. I have a question If I’m getting the PL2 notification, do I need to increase or decrease the value that is set? I’m currently using a i9750H
@jedi223003 жыл бұрын
PL2 means that you are hitting the limit of how much power you allow the cpu to take. If you have the thermal headroom, you can increase the power limit. Increasing the PL will increase the wattage consumed, so it will increase heat output but you will also get better performance because the cpu is getting more power. So the answer to your question is it depends on what you want to do. Hitting power limit is completely normal as all you're doing is limiting the amount of power the cpu is allowed to take. If you let the CPU take as much power as it wants, you're gonna thermal throttle due to too much heat output. If you want cooler temps at the cost of lowered performance, you can decrease the PL

Could you explain more the PL1 and PL2 values? How do they affect performance/temperature and how do we calculate PL2 (PL1 is just your total voltage during GPU + CPU tests if I understood you correctly)?
@jedi223003 жыл бұрын
So you'll first want to understand the differences between voltage, amps, and wattage. If this was a water pipe, volt is the water pressure, amps is how wide the pipe is, and wattage is the total water flow. A wider pipe would of course allow more water to flow, and higher water pressure would also allow more water to flow. Therefore, wattage is calculated as volt * amps = watts. Watts can be thought of as how much electricity is being used. Power Limit: how many watts the component is allowed to use. For example, a CPU with a 45w power limit will be limited to 45w of power max. For intel, these are separated into PL1 and PL2. PL2 is the short term power limit, where a processor can use more power for a short amount of time before PL1 kicks in, which is the long term power limit. For example, a CPU with a PL1 of 45w may boost to 60w with PL2 for 30 seconds before dropping down to 45w. As the name implies, this is how much power your cpu is allowed to have, which means more power = more performance. However, all that electricity is energy, and that energy gets converted to heat in the processor. So the more electricity you use, the more heat you produce. More wattage = more performance = more heat
@slavavr3 жыл бұрын
@@jedi22300 So if a CPU has a PL2 = 45w and it consumes 45w under a stress test, enabling Power Limit Control and making PL2 = 60w (for example) won't change anything, the CPU isn't gonna consume more than 45w in a long test anyway? You just can just reduce the PL to decrease performance/heat, that's it?
@jedi223003 жыл бұрын
@@slavavr Increasing the PL2 to 60w will only increase the short term power limit to 60w. So it'll allow it to pull 60w for a little bit but that's it. If you want more performance over long term, you'd want to increase both PL2 and PL1 to 60w so that it can pull 60w
@slavavr3 жыл бұрын
@@jedi22300 I wrote PL2 instead of PL1, sorry. So if a CPU pulls 45w under a stress test and you increase PL1 to 60w it won't change anything, the CPU won't consume more wattage anyway?

I have got an 8750H I am trying to undervolt rn, and with power limit disabled my CPU is getting 60w under a stress test in AIDA. I tried to enable power limit and set PL1 to 70w for example (and kept PL2 = 90w), and it changed nothing, the wattage stayed the same, around 60w. I watched a couple throttlestop videos where the guys set their PL1 to the wattage their CPUs consumed in a stress test, but is that no different from not enabling power limits at all?

In my laptop the unlock adjustable voltage option is not enabling please helpp
@jedi22300 Жыл бұрын
Your laptop might have a locked voltage due to the Intel plundervolt vulnerability. You can try look up your laptops model and see if anyone else had any luck with undervolting it

Cant lower voltage. Have a gigabyte auros 5 se4, is it because the bios is locked?

Hey, first time user here. How do I access undervolting? it's kinda locked and I can't change any variables in voltage..?

Thank you so much! My cpu used to be at 100 and now it’s at 50

how do we know that our CPU is under "undervoltage"? is there some kind of log we can access? thx
@jedi22300 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if I'm following you correctly, but I use hwinfo's sensors to check if my undervolt is properly applied. If you mean that you undervolted too much, that would be the "stability" section of my video. Lmk if I got your question wrong

what if in limits i see alot of yellow bars and then EDR, PL2 and TVB blink in red then yellow ?
@parsatww71152 жыл бұрын
Great video! You explained the program better than anyone else. I have a question, I have a core i7-9700k CPU, by default my PL1 is 95 and PL2 is 210. Are my numbers ridiculously high? I think my CPU overheating problem is because of my high PL’s. What do you think?
@jedi223002 жыл бұрын
Is this for a laptop? and what model is it? And when you say overheating, can you elaborate on that?
@parsatww71152 жыл бұрын
@@jedi22300 I have a PC. By overheating I mean, when gaming my CPU temps easily reach 70-80c,sometimes past 90c and in very cpu intensive games even 100c! I have been using throttlestop for a couple of months and undervolting the CPU core and cache won’t do much for my temp’s, the most impacting for me is reducing the turbo ratio limits by 2,3 numbers. With this change my temp’s never go higher than 80c under max load But the downside is of course it decreases the performance a bit, so I am curious that maybe my PL1 and PL2 are the culprit?

@@parsatww7115 100c is definitely hot! Actually if it's a desktop PC, I wanna ask if you've looked at the hardware first to cool it? Desktop PCs generally have pretty good cooling. Things to consider are dusty heatsinks and fans, fans that aren't running fast enough, old/bad thermal paste, inadequate airflow (could opening the side panel improve thermals?) If it's a really cheap heatsink or whatnot, then yeah I'd say your power limit is the culprit. If your computer is overheating at 95 watts of load, then you can lower that. However again though I will say that desktops can *usually* handle more than 95w without overheating so I'd definitely look into some of the things I mentioned earlier
@parsatww71152 жыл бұрын
@@jedi22300 You have made some good suggestions, I will definitely check the fans and thermal paste,Thanks. The weird thing is, my GPU temps are excellent, I have never seen my GPU even reach 70c when overclocked and under heavy load. The only problem is the CPU, in my opinion the PC case has decent airflow because I can feel the air flowing when I look closely inside my pc lol.

You did the tweaks for both performance and battery, is it necessary to do for both or just performance as I mostly play games??

Nah no need to touch the battery setting if you're just gonna stay plugged in

there is no option to enable speed shift for my dell xps 1520, what do i do?
@jedi22300 Жыл бұрын
That cpu is too old to support speedshift. I believe it may use speed step instead, which is the older technology. I don't think you can adjust any settings for it though
