Basic wiring of Megasquirt

This is a quick video going over the basic wiring of a megasquirt ecu into my 280z turbo build. This is pretty standard for any vehicle.

i looked at the ms wire diagram 50x and didn't notice the 37 pin is a ground lead. thank you. Clear as day and over looked that critical detail.

on3 racing channel repetition is the key to teaching. I'm having trouble figuring out ms pin 1,2 and 24 in that shielded covering. connecting to my 1g cas. the computer is reading crazy hi rpm and noise that won't let it start.

Ed Solomon 24 is just the shielding wire for those 2 sensor so you won't do anything with it. If you are seeing crazy rpm you could either 1. Have the wrong sensor that doesn't work with megasquirt or 2. Have it setup wrong in tuner studios. I didn't have a trigger wheel I used the distributor so mine will be different

on3 racing channel I'm gonna have to do more studying. I have 24 connected to an existing cas assigned pin from the stock ecu pin out. and pin 1,2 are both grounded to assigned ecu ground and gray wire 26 is to another cas assigned pin

Correction. The wires coming off the O2 sensor are tan-purple-and 2 browns. The plug-in connector has different colors. The tan does to the red wire, one brown goes to a yellow wire, the other brown goes to a black wire, and the purple goes to the white wire. The red wire I connected to a 5 amp fuse and the black went to ground. The two brown wires I'm not sure of. T he diagram you are showing has what look like a light purple and grey wires being connected to the relay board. Does it matter which way they are connected? Thank you, Bill

Hi there! I have some wondering what to do with the 36 pin. I have a Chrysler crossfire tear 2005 and a MS-2 v.3 57. Is it possible to use MS-2 on it? And how to wire pin 36. Or maybe I don't need it? Please help me I am lost now

Which ms are you running? And where did you find the ms wire harness? I’m trying to run a ms3 pro pnp for a wrx build but I ordered a bulk harness from iwire pnp and nothing is labeled ‘ I have no idea what wires power nor which are grounds’ Can you help me out maaan?!!

I gotta pass smog on an 82 B2000. This Nikki carb sucks, I cannot lean it enough to get the stink out of the exhaust. Im not sure whats up with it but I have a MS2 with no plans. I just want to get a clean running motor so the refs can sign it off. Do these need the additional smog pumps and air injection or is EFI clean enough to ditch these? I think they are carb related....thanks.

It would be pretty similar. You will still need signal input from a distributor or crank/cam position

Great video!! But i am still a little insecure about the wiring. I also have an Megasquirt-2 v3.57. And i want to wire it in an Chrysler crossfire. Is there any step by step video of how to connect each wire? Dont want to get it wrong :)

On a crossfire there probably isn’t going to be. You can always check diy auto tune website they have different write ups on different vehicles.

Would this work for modern cars or only those of a certain vintage like 70's early 80's.

Check out www.diyautotune.com you can install these on just about anything. I have installed them on a 03 mustang, some LS based stuff and several 302 fords (windsor). Now you cant really add it to say a 15 challenger because of the factory ecu integration but it can run newer engines

Dug up another O2 sensor. It has 3 wires, 2 white-1 black. It has a waterproof connector with 3 letters embossed on it over the wire locations. A and B are white and C is black. Any help this way? Thank you, Bill

In the diagram, I only see 1 output for an ignition coil. I am thinking about installing a megasquirt in my 6 cylinder engine, and I dont see how I could use 1 trigger to spark all the coils at once. I think my oem coil fires 2 cylinders at a time. I cant seem to find any info on this so any help would be great. Thanks!

The MS2 and MS3 both offer more outputs than just one. You could either install extra ignition output circuits inside the unit or I believe DIYAUTOTUNE now sells spark modules for that application.

I have found when doing swaps to take my budget I think it will cost. Double it and add $500. "while I'm at it" will get you every time.

Hey bro I am going to get a new computer I am getting a ms2 megasquirt with the 10′ MegaSquirt Wiring Harness but I see the diagram is for only four injectors is there something I could to do to get it for 6 injectors is there a trick for it?

No trick to it. The injectors are wired off of banks. So while the picture only shows 4 injectors you can wire it up to however many you need. So the way it will work is you have a bank 1 and bank 2 wire. Each bank has 2 control wires per bank. In the 4 cylinder model bank 1 wire 1 goes to cylinder 1. bank 1 wire 2 goes to cylinder 2. bank 2 wire 1 goes to cylinder 3 bank 2 wire 2 goes to cylinder 4. On yours you can do it like this. bank 1 wire 1 goes to cylinder 1, 2, and 3. bank 2 wire 1 goes to cylinders 3,4, and 5. Or in any form you want to. Some wire them up as to follow the firing order. EXAMPLE bank 1 wire 1 goes to 1,3,4 bank 2 wire 2 goes to 2,5, and 6. There is some theory that this helps fuel flow but i would't worry about it honestly. Splitting atoms at that point. I have an issue I'm hoping you can help with. I have an O2 sensor with 4 wires. I believe the red is hot and the black is ground. The other 2 wires are yellow and white. Does it matter which is which when going to the relay board? I ask because the wire colors don't match the diagram shown here. Thank you in advance, Bill

Is it a wide band or narrow band sensor? My o2 sensor is a wide band and has a controller that powers the o2 sensor. Then I give the red wire key on positive, the black wire ground, and my yellow wire is going to my o2 input on my megasquirt.

on3 racing channel I used an ohm meter to run the wiring on the O2 sensor. The red and black wires were the only ones to show connection, so I wired those to hot and ground. the other 2 will go to the relay board. I sure hope this does it. Thanks for any help you have given me so far, Bill

yes that will be the heater circuit but will need a controller or else you will burn the the heater circuit up. I think the best thing to do would be to save up and buy a wideband o2 like a lc2.

Tie 2 into 1 and feed 3 injectors and do the same with the other side

always wondered man, how are the starter and alternator wired in relation to megasquirt? They just have a seperate power wire going to the battery and to eachother and aren't connected to megasquirt at all?

Correct. They are basically wired in stand alone like most older vehicles. If you have a alternator that is controlled by the ecm then you will need to switch to a later version that is internally controlled.

@@on3racingchannel819 Okay. Do you happen to know how the power distribution system is wired up? Like I assume Battery Positive -> Starter (and the starter has a thin wire going to an ignition 12v signal from either the Megasquirt or a relay?)

@@DJimeku Every car will be different but Typically you want the M.S. battery feed wired straight to the battery and then the key on feed to come from a source that keeps power with key on and in the start position. The MS does not need to see the engine is cranking by the starter it will get that info from the crank and/or cam trigger

@@DJimeku That signal comes from your ignition switch. Most cares built pre 2000's us a mechanical switch when you turn the key to give power to the signal wire on the solenoid. when you release the key the power is no longer given to the solenoid and the starter stops turning. Some cars after the 2000s are still this way but most modern cars use a BCM or TIPM module to active the power to the solenoid instead now.

earlyhemibill it sounds like you have a wide band o2 sensor which you will need some kind of controller for to warm the sensor up and then interpolate the data from the sensor and put it out in a wave form for the megasquirt

I really didn't want to hear that. I hooked up the connector and put the rad on 12 volts and the black to ground.
