Nathan J. Robinson stated that Sowell "is not given much attention by mainstream scholars in the academy, and few of his books are reviewed by major liberal-leaning publications."[107] He suggested this may be because "[h]is books rarely engage with the major academic literature on the subject he's writing about" and he often "leaves out crucial pieces of data that would make his position look weaker", citing his writing on minimum wage policy and unemployment as an example.[107] Economist James B. Stewart wrote a critical review of Black Rednecks and White Liberals, calling it "the latest salvo in Thomas Sowell's continuing crusade to represent allegedly dysfunctional value orientations and behavioral characteristics of African Americans as the principal reasons for persistent economic and social disparities." He also criticized it for downplaying the impact of slavery.[108] Particularly in black communities in the 1980s Sowell became, in historian Michael Ondaatje's words, "persona non grata, someone known to talk about, rather than with, African Americans".[109] Economist Bernadette Chachere,[110] law professor Richard Thompson Ford,[111] and sociologists William Julius Wilson[112] and Richard Coughlin[113] have criticized some of his work.

Unfortunately, the success of charter schools varies greatly. In largely African American communities like Gary IN, charter schools have not met the targeted goals that public schools must meet. They are built in areas that public schools would not be permitted, or the buildings have been below the standards that are required of public schools. The primary beneficiaries of the charter school programs in these communities has tended to be the owners of the charter schools.

I remember watching this program back in 1981 and laughing my rear-end off at the cluelessness of the questioners. It was like they weren't listening to his answers, or thought he was speaking a language other than English. Most of Sowell's writings have been vindicated lately by events. Especially right now in Los Angeles, where the political authorities are coming face to face with the consequences of their policies. I wonder if the voters will realize that their homes have been lost because of the actions of the people like the Mayor of Los Angeles and the Governor of California. That California doesn't have enough water to put out fires is the opportunity cost of decisions to allocate scarce resources to other, less crucial, uses. Sowell, the economist, has been warning about that for half a century.

There are two ways to look at this. The first is from the point of view of those that are very familiar with Sowell's works. The second is listening to NBC's to the questions. Even with Jordan Peterson, though, he sometimes lacks the ability to speak on complex topics in a simplified explanation for the norm to grasp. He can even sometimes come off as trying too hard to sound highly intelligent. Where as Thomas Sowell he speaks so simple but extremely deep and profound. JP can be boring sometimes as well, while I can listen to Thomas Sowell all day talking about a boring topic.

The both are brilliant, but Thomas Sowell simply from a different universe of unparalleled intelligence.

I wonder what these newsmen said to their wives at dinner about interviewing Thomas Sowell. Do you think they were honest enough to say “He kicked our asses”?
