This is the Best, most useful Modern artist tools for doing a portrait that I have ever seen on the INTERNET. I paint/ sell on the street and this is absolutely invaluable. Much more precise than freehand portrait while painting on street. I would really like to know if you have ever tried using proportional dividers when doing portrait of someone in person en plein air.

I like to get the basic shape and placement of eyes first. Most important part i think. The ends of mouth are usually approximately lined up with center of each eye in my experience when eyeballing the measurements.

Why not simply use a caliper, either a vernier caliper (available in plastic) or an old school one with bent legs for larger measurements? The bamboo stick seems ad hoc! Even a plastic ruler would do the same job as the stick, w o confusing pencil marks!

thank you for the video as requested sir . how do i enlarge without gridlines. i often am afraid to do commissions without grids.im very passionate about learning art the crude way,i dont believe so much in gridding. thank you
@jimmyross43527 жыл бұрын
+John Ibanga Not sure what you mean by the crude way, but I've tried grids, and found them to be very time consuming. What i have been doing lately is enlarging the subject's photo on my laptop (using the little gear shaped zoom tool), then i tape tracing paper to it. i then turn out the light and trace some lines. then i follow these lines precisely using a soft pencil on the back side of the tracing paper, turn it over and trace them onto my drawing paper. Saves me a lot of time. Hope this helps you : )
