Great video! I will remind what you and kobe say to my son. Sometimes when his shot is not falling in U18 matches, he feels helpless and is glued to the 3pt line vs. keep trying to shoot and helping his team win with def/passing/comm. The hacking hoops community sounds like a great initiative too. Thx 😁👍

Thank you! And yes, there are so many ways to impact winning outside of scoring.

@TuckerRichardson Yes, absolutely. We are also in Brussels, we should go and see you play. Thx again 😊

Gotta eat the frog and go over the film & stats the first thing no matter what then. Thanks for sharing this perspective, I think it's a common pitfall for everyone while trying to let go subpar performances.
@TuckerRichardsonАй бұрын
100%, and I am usually good with this. That is why I'm glad I was able to remind myself that the discomfort of watching a "bad game" is really important, and a lot of times you realize it really wasn't as bad as you made it seem in your head.

I can't even call myself a basketball player anymore as nowadays I play more football/soccer, but one of the things that has helped me the most with my game is resetting my mind before every play, sometimes by just doing an optimal move before I can even think, for example attacking the defenders top foot - that will almost always be a decent move. After you do a move your brain immediately goes into the next step, you have less time so you don't have time to really think about the mistakes of the last possession. That, plus I try to fill my mind with the present, where is the defense? how is my defender positioned? who is open? always trying to act as fast as possible to not allow the doubt to creep in. That can and will cause you to make mistakes, but those mistakes are, for example, because you are going too fast and not because you are incapable of doing that, so you just slow down a bit next time, it's a simple mistake so you don't really think a lot about it. And as you said, I always practice the stuff I struggled with in the next few practice sessions.

Sounds like doing mini visualizations during the game. I think this is a really fascinating technique, and I definitely try and reset often during my games. Particularly after a mistake where my brain might start wandering.

I’m a denial player too, but I rarely play poorly
@TuckerRichardsonАй бұрын
Well that is helpful!
@coopershacklefordАй бұрын
Personally I don't try and forget my bad games but I try and work out why I played poorly. Usually it ends up being something simple, like I wasn't able to grip the ball on my drives (very common for me this season) 5 games in I'm still averaging 12 points on better efficiency than last season which was one of my 2 goals, to either score more or be more efficient
@TuckerRichardsonАй бұрын
Love this. Taking an approach of learning when looking at bad performances can be very helpful. I’m glad you are having some more success this season my man!

@tankairui2362Ай бұрын
Do you think being eager for the ball is bad, i scored 0 in a game i played today, i probably went 0/7. 0/3 from 3 and 0/4 from the field. I think it might be that i want to prove myself and the training i used every time i touch the ball which adds on more pressure. I really want to prove myself great but it just doesnt go my way. What do you think the solution should be?
@tankairui2362Ай бұрын
And it pains me even more that most of my teamates who dont train at all end up outscoring me.
@TuckerRichardsonАй бұрын
I think there is an important balance between aggressiveness while also understanding your strengths and weaknesses. But in my opinion at the lower levels, aggressiveness is more important because you are going to be constantly getting better from training.
