Bass Fishing Lake McKellar in Downtown Memphis

Today I am on the "Beautiful" Lake McKellar. This lake isn't pretty but can often times be very fun. I am trying to catch a few big bass for my pond. I didn't catch any of the type of fish I was looking for but I did catch one that will do for now.

I was so happy to hear you say “for the pond” 😅 we’ve cleaned so many spills of nasty stuff at that lake and regularly tell folks to stop eating the fish. It has some bangers in there though!

yeah, you couldn't pay me enough to eat a fish from that place. That lake is nasty. LOL

Where did you launch from? I've heard some horror stories about robberies and thefts from vehicles. Is their multiple places to launch from and any better than others?

There is only one boat launch on McKellar. This is where I launch my boat. You can launch from Mud Island but it is a long boat ride to get into McKellar. I have never had an issue. I am not sure I would launch on Saturday night for some night time fishing though. I also usually go on weekends and the launch is busy with people.

Nice video. I’m heading to Memphis in a few days for work and as much as I’d like to take my boat I’m too afraid it’ll get stolen from the hotel. Have any good spots you can put me on for bank fishing?? I sure would appreciate it.

Absolutely. I am currently without a truck so I have been bank fishing the past 2 weeks. Check out my last video from Poplar Tree Lake. It is probably 25 minutes from downtown Memphis. They charge $3 to bank fish. Fish the rock dam. Use a frog and a white spinnerbait and you should have some luck. I caught nearly 20 bass in about 2 hours.
