Great vid Steve! Most of what you say applies to all bass fishing, not just flyfishing. Hardware chuckers like me should also benefit from watching this vid. I have only one comment - what you said about getting a good cast in and just doing it once and then move on. I absolutely concur that is what most bass fishos do nowadays as we're all on kayaks, canoes or boats. This has actually meant that we do not do something that I was explicitly taught to do when I was first introduced to Aust bass fishing (30 yrs ago this year) and that is to bash a snag for a good 5 - 10 minutes!! This was of course pre-watercraft days for me and it is all about the belief that by backing your choice of a good snag and casting repeatedly into it, you would "annoy" the bass to finally hit your lure/fly. However, like I said this is something that I don't do much of either as I would quickly float on to the next snag if I don't get a hit the first cast. What that does of course is that the more hungry or aggro bass would have a go and this is OK most of the time. Of course I still believe that many snags can benefit from a few casts at various angles. Love your work. Too bad I'm tooold & crusty to take up another pastime in flyfishing!

Thanks Tham! Yeah that’s a great point mate, I guess the equation changes a bit when you only have access to limited water, or perhaps if the bass are super shut down. :)

That was very informative and well presented. I don't have bass near where I live but I reflected on chasing bream and how they sit looking up at your surface fly till they can't stand watching it any more and then commit. I like to think I'm 'teasing' them into striking. Thanks for another enjoyable show.
