If the sea robins are decent size, they make tasty filets. The yield is low, maybe 1 pound of filet from 5 pounds of round fish. IMO porgies are tastier if cooked with the bone in, scaled but with the skin on. I cut along the dorsal fin but leave the fin on.

Nice. I love the Jumpin’ Minnow for bass, and have caught albies on it too. Plus, it’s much less-expensive than many other surf plugs. I often replace the rear hook with a bucktail trailer, which keeps me from catching the super-small bass, and it hasn’t diminished my ability to hook the larger fish.

Welcome back John! Your FL videos induced me to buy a new Hobie Outback. Picked it up Monday and hope to take it out on Friday from Centerport or maybe the Lilco Asharoken ramp. Supposedly the fluke are stacked by the oil platform.

Favor to ask, at end of vid before you move to fluke, might you consider in the future when observing "really big porgy," could you give us a measurement for scale? GoPro lens, it's hard to tell. @@JohnSkinnerFishing Hi John. Usually during the full moon in May we will get our squid run. It has slowed considerably over the years and my local bait shop guy goes to the Cape now where it is very good. We will get a sand eel hatch soon and that will trigger some good fluking. I’ve been struggling to come up with ideas for dealing with the rail that runs around the bow of my small cabin boat. Never thought about mounting it on top of the rail. Thanks Giovanni

G M - the guy that did mine also did a Steiger with a pronounced rail. From what I remember, he cut a section of the rail and welded in two sloping down pieces so there was a gap where the TM could be deployed

I wanted to get back up for the Northern fisheries, but looking at the 10-day forecast down there every single day says "thunderstorms" with high 85-90. Pretty tough when you're limited to a kayak.

Hi John, where is the chum pot compared to where you drop your line. Do you try and stay within a couple of feet of the chum pot or do you drop the chum pot off the bow and fish off the stern? Thanks.

Do you drop the jig right to the bottoms and let it sit for a given time or do you drop and then reel it up a few inches and let it hover close to the bottom. Dumb question I know but I'm knew to porgy/blackfish/ bottom fishing

No, but I did spend a few years catching the kings and steelies on Lake Ontario many years ago when I was in Grad School. Really awesome gamefish.
