Peter, he released the Geoff quartet early with a warning that it was NOT the final video. If you have time, go back and watch that. The interaction between the four Geoff's is funny as all get out. It would have been a completely different feel if he'd used that without the train walker. His attention to detail in the video is my favorite thing. The back of the photograph says "See you on the golden shore" or something very close. And the bouquet of baby's breath. That was the sweetest, most wistful, hopeful thing I've seen!! And the end chord was reminiscent of his cover of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen two years ago. He did a cover of the Mills Brothers' TIll Then a sweet romantic ballad from the perspective of a soldier at war hoping his girl waits for him.

Your sarcastic edits for the loud belting demonstrations had me cackling! Especially the cut to the color bars joke. I'm still laughing about it. Fantastic analysis as always. When I first listened to this, I was struck by how southern gospel it sounded at times. I grew up heavily with southern gospel as my parents are both from small Georgia towns. There were moments in this song that transported me back to sitting around singing in 4-part harmony with my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, complete with country riffs, call-and-response singing, suspended chords, and soooo many picardy thirds and Aeolian cadences. We were a very musical family but most of them are gone now. I miss those days.

I think some of the credit for the different look of the video goes to Layne Stein. He did the train tracks portion, and suggested shots over and above what Geoff had in mind. And Kathy filmed the last scene with the abandoned locomotive.

I think Geoff has been working on his diction in his lower register. From Christmas to now, the difference is noticable. Especially over the last couple months. It's much more clear than it used to be, for sure, and it was already pretty good. I love that he's been writing for their covers lately too. Both for VoicePlay and himself (like in this one). I'm hoping we'll soon get an original song from VP. I know they have some original stuff already, but it's more silly and fun. I'd like to see them take a crack at a full on production of a new song.

As far as I read in comments to other reactions, that bridge was Geoff's composition, he added it to the song but it should be an original part from him. Someone commented that the fact that so many are taking it for another country song is a hint at how good he's been at composing it 😁. It's always really nice to watch your reactions, and yes, as far as I'm concerned you definitely add something (more than something...) to my experience and comprehension of what goes on in the song, ad I'm so grateful for this. ❤ In the "normal version" there is a "public service notice" Geoff gave right after his logo... 😁😁 I'll let you hear it by yourself, the way he does it is funny and adorable 😁. Thanks again for everything you share with us. See you next time!

I've been waiting for this. :) Geoff was asked if he played the guitat and he said yes, but on the keybaord. :) His lowest notes now sound to me like a cello. Minions, I like that. And to avoid the monotony he wrote a bridge! As with Golden Hour he's started sneaking in some words of his own. The most amusing moment for me is when check shirt Geoff smiles broadly whilst singing "He has no friends to help him now." LOL.

Right, Geoff composed and wrote the bridge, as he's done on several of his covers and VoicePlay's covers. What you missed by reacting to the Patreon release is the great PSA over the credits about walking on train tracks. Go check it out - I won't spoil the laugh on you.

I've been waiting so eagerly for your analysis of this cover. You always has so much to share. Geoff wrote that bridge for this song himself. Just as he added a bridge to VP cover of Golden Hour. As for mentioning Peaky Blinders, did you notice that I finally got Richard Laudon to yield to my request to react to your Peaky Blinders song? I thought it fitting, as he works at a local radio station in Birmingham. You did cut out on Geoff's good advise though.

Great reaction and analysis - always interesting to hear your thoughts and explanations. Both Geoff on his own and VoicePlay as a group seem to be raising the bar even higher with the cinematics and production of late. Love how he added his own lyrics and rocked this up, without losing the country feel - additional lyrics seem to be a theme for them as well at the moment. Have you looked at Geoff's version of "High And Dry" yet or "Blackbird"? Would like to hear your thoughts on those.

As always, Geoff manages to find ways to surprise and delight - and rattle our teeth a little. The tempo of this was a little unsettling, NGL - but it wasn’t off putting. I did also like the scenery as a nice change of pace. Lots of natural beauty out there, might as well take advantage. That Picardy third, though. Music theory was a few *cough* decades back for this old bass… 😂

Firstly, I do think that weird chord is weird. I don’t remember the orig feeling that jazzy. Second, thank you for the actual lol you gave me when you hit Geoff’s new bridge and actually went 😮. I had to stop the vid and take time to finish giggling. For what it’s worth, this one surprised the crap outa me too. I Do Not Like this song. At all. I only gave it a shot because I figured Geoff would do Geoff things and make it at least tolerable to me. He made me like it, lol. That bridge brought in so much blues to my ears and it just sewed it up to me. And I learned something new today: I learned what a Picka…however that’s spelled …chord is. Thank you! Excellent as always!
@MuriKakari
@MuriKakari Жыл бұрын
I think that where Geoff has the jazzy chord, the original is actually the same note as the one before- and that is a very jazzy chord. In the original, it's a rise while singing 'for', then 'I'm' 'bound' 'to' all on the same note very staccato then 'ride' going down exactly the opposite of 'for'

Peter, great song/artist choice & R&A, as always! 🤓 It seems like Geoff took a lament or melancholy ballad & reshaped it into a dance tune, almost. I really like his cover 💜 Thanks again! @MagicMason1000

An Appoggiatura is a arrangement technique where you take a step before a note, if that makes sense. For example, if you had the notes: C, B, A, going down one after the other, you could insert an Appoggiatura before the A to create C, B, G-A. It's called a Non-Chord Tone (or Musical Ornament) and it's a little hard to explain in plain text, but there's examples online you can find.
