In this metalhead reaction video, I react to Geoff Castellucci and his cover song 'Man of Constant Sorrow.'
Geoff has always been a great bass singer, with a unique and powerful voice. I had an absolute blast and spine tingling sensations due to his unique voice!

Well, Geoff IS a concerned daddy. Even Cesar the newest member of VP called him daddy in a BTS video when he was new in the group.

He must have a "Jiminy Cricket" on his shoulder, reminding him about doing the responsible thing. Which comes in very handy when your best friend, Layne (aka 'Lampwick') is telling you not to worry, 'nothing bad can happen'.

I just adore the bridges Geoff writes for various songs ("Now, now, now, take me to the water.." in this one, "Can you ever know how you build..." in Golden Hour, and "Snow is on the ground..." in Christmas Don't Be Late" for example). Ghost Riders will break your brain!

Random aside: I saw you did a reaction to some TikTokers doing Hoist The Colors. FYI: Voice Play has done that too. And they went full on fierce with it. Valhalla Calling is the only other track that I think they got that bad ass on.

Awesome reaction. You'll love Ghost Riders. There is 5 of him in it. Each of his clones have their own name and personality. Jeff, Jeoph, Goff and Daryl. In this one Daryl was the one walking the tracks. It was filmed at 3 separate locations on 3 separate days.

The part you replayed starting at 05:36 is the new bridge and lyrics that Geoff wrote for the song - you won't find it in more traditional (or any other) versions of the song. Home Free (another big a cappella group) does what I would call a more traditional version of the song, although they shift it from a country to a bluegrass based version - and their bass, Tim Foust, is also amazing and is friends with Geoff, even helping Geoff with his low growl technique - something Tim is very, VERY good at (he's blown numerous speaker systems during Home Free concerts).

Yesss - Geoff is everyone's daddy... Exceptional talent and I'm glad you're exploring his "solo" (is it still solo when there are at least 4 of him?) stuff. As well as Ghost Riders and Misty Mountains my other two fave to recommend are Sixteen Tons and Ain't No Sunshine. But all his stuff is amazing really. Also pause away.... Please ignore those that say you shouldn't. If they want to listen to the original uninterrupted they can. We are here for YOUR reaction and comments 😊

He did this one so well. If we haven't mentioned it, he does it all. Arranged, Produced, Performed, Filmed, and Edited by Geoff Castellucci Additional Music and Lyrics by Geoff Castellucci. Layne (VP beatboxer) did the steady cam work. The final mix was done by Ed Boyer who does the mixing for several acapella groups as well as Voiceplay. This was truly wonderful, but my favorite thing is Geoff's attention to detail. On the back of the picture some version of Meet you on the golden shore. And he was carrying that sweet bouquet of baby's breath. Those things gave this a more hopeful feel than any other version I've seen, and then that last major chord after the drop into the basement! The sweet, wistful, hopeful feeling throughout just gets me every time. In addition to the ones you are already thinking of reacting to try: Shenandoah - calm, soothing, beautiful Sound of Silence - will knock your socks off House of the Rising Sun - he's just showingoff Great reaction!!

Another vote for Sound of Silence. Might be my favorite version of that song. He really does make it his own. Additional note that if you like the deep notes, Voiceplay released Valhalla Calling recently and the arrangement keeps him down in the low bass range the entire time. He sustains a super low note for like 15 seconds.

@@kevinstrong4527 That note is B0. He does it several times in the song.

My personal all-time favorite is his cover of Misty Mountains. This is based on one of the songs in Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Because he is wearing hair pieces and beards, some reactors who had not seen his work before thought that they were four brothers. This is his newest release so it’s going to pop up more due to the oddball way that KZbin does things. He has done a number of solos and he does not do these a cappella. But he does use plug-ins for his keyboard and does the keyboarding himself. Most of his early work is done with a stationary camera and only his wife as a crew. Recently he’s been using Layne’s ability to use a steady cam as the videos get more complex. He seems to like four and five part harmonies singing each of the parts himself although I believe there is some layering to fill out the sound. Another favorite of mine, simply because I grew up listening to this song is 16 Tons originally done by Tennessee Ernie Ford back in the 50s. Oh, and always wait until the Patreon rolls starts. Every once in a while Geoff VoicePlay add little extras just when you thought they were done. The disclaimer about the train tracks is real. Layne scouted some tracks and recommended some to Geoff. But they were tracks still in use… For the commuter train… And they were filming at 5 PM. 🤦🏼‍♀️. Geoff pointed to the flashing lights Layne simply said ”but you have at least a minute to get off the tracks after they start flashing”. 🤯. Fortunately they found another set nearby.

I stumbled across your reaction video today, and I'm glad I did. Geoff did a phenomenal job with this cover. But what I wasn't expecting was how you reacted. You gave me serious, SERIOUS vibes of a lovely, close friend who passed away back in October of last year. Your expressions, your giggles, and just you being the way you were, and for a bit, it looked like I was watching my friend again. So much so, that I burst into tears because he's missed that much. Thank you for that. Skol!!

This is Geoff's latest but he's done many beatiful songs. Some of my favourites are Country Roads and Shenandoah but there are much more fun ones too. Monster Mash is wonderful and God REst Ye Merry Gentleman is another favourtie of mine. His range is best heard in songs like Blackbird or High and Dry, and in VoicePlay's Oogie Boogie Song, and all there have a totally a different feel. But in this one that low note is the richest and smoothest is the best I've heard him. And yes, Ghost Riders, another one. And Mistly Mountains. Why does he throw in those low notes? I'd say that a) he loves doing it, b) he knows his fans like it.

I came here by accident (so to say) and was surprised on how you analyzed/interpreted a Rammstein Video. Perhaps because I am German and you understand German (or somehow the way of thinking) you were one of very few who had the right ideas. I liked that. When I heard you even speak (a rest of) German, I was even more surprised and as you stumbled across Voiceplay and Geoff - I had to sub, because we are "linked by soul" or something. I don't know. But I know, I like you, your reactions, your thoughts, and everything around. I feel lucky and I thank you!

My first KZbin music was a Geoff solo - doing the Monster Mash, one of my favorite Halloween songs. Next - I went looking for more and found VoicePlay doing Hoist the Colours which is amazing. I was seriously hooked particularly finding out that VoicePlay has over 800 videos and watched everyone I could find (nearly all of them). This Valentine's Day I found one I had missed, Grow Old With Me. Geoff started his soloes when Covid cancelled tours and he needed something to do. He doesn't have as many but the quality is unreal. I love best, maybe depends on the day, Man of Constant Sorrow, Far Over the Misty Mountain Cold, Blackbird, House of the Rising Sun, High and Dry, 16 Tons, Big Bad John, Ain't No Sunshine, Sounds of Silence, and all the rest of them.

Nice reaction! I like VoicePlay, but I prefer Geoff's solo work. Have you done any reactions to Dan Vasc? Whether you have or not, you definitely need to do a reaction to his version of Amazing Grace. It's been out for two weeks now, and I just can't get enough of it! I listen to it literally every single time I come onto KZbin, at least three times a day, but usually way more. Any reactions to any of his songs are appreciated!

Geoff has 4 clones. Jeoph, Goff, Jeff and Darryl. But he does more layering than that. Darryl is the one on the tracks in this video. He didn’t point out which was which in this video for the others. But having watched so many videos i’d say it is Jeoph, Geoff, Goff and Jeff on the far right. They all have different personalities. Darryl isn’t always there. He is shy and intense.

In one sense, it's fairly 'simple' for him to film the four Geoffs just using a static camera and blending the different shots together, and having someone (almost always his wife, Kathy) watch the camera while he's filming to make sure that they are all staying within their asigned 'space'. But the fact that he films these sequentially, sometimes with a major makeup change in addition to changing clothes, and yet seems to know exactly what every 'person' should be looking at (especially when they appear to be interacting with each other) at any given moment is what blows me away. I can only conjecture that he has spent so much time on the arrangement and recording it that he has a detailed 'storyboard' well established in his mind before he starts filming.

I commented just recently somewhere else that it's fun to hear new reactors hear the beginning of that song and comment, "Wow, he really is a LOW bass singer", and then about 15 seconds later Geoff casually drops down another octave or so, LOL.
