The song "Ikanaide" (Please, don't go) was composed in 1989 by Japanese singer-songwriter Koji Tamaki, with lyrics written by Goro Matsui. It tells the true story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, who was born in China in 1920 to Japanese parents and became a celebrated singer and actress under the Chinese name Li Xianglan. When after WWII her Japanese origin became known, she was accused of espionage and was deported to Japan, never to return to China again. The song speaks of the anguish, heartbreak, and final acceptance of this parting as the ones who love her have no choice but to let her go. Many of Dimash's song choices have interesting back stories that touch on deeply felt , often heart-breaking, real human experiences (for example, Daybreak, Samaltau, Moonlight Mama, Marigolds, to name a few). Dimash's stated mission is to promote peace and unity through his music, giving people from all over the world the opportunity to experience our shared humanity through his art. He is breaking down language, generational and cultural barriers everywhere because he lets his music speak directly heart to heart, soul to soul. He is so much more than just a singer. He is a true Master.

I ❤when true knowledgeable artists analyze other true knowledgeable artists. It is not annoying when they stop or repeat parts of music tracks because they are adding something or pointing out something of value that helps you understand the piece and performance better. Even it the analysis is not positive as long as it has no agenda behind and done with knowledge not preference it it is valuable for the listen. It enjoyed your analysis. Dimash’s originally sang this in Chinese at the I Am Singer contest in 2017, called Autumn Strong. Also in his red suit, and not to be missed, at Ukraine just before Covid stopped his Arnau Tour in March of 2020, his tones are exceptional, and the performance is mind boggling. Many Japanese reactors say his words were pronounced perfectly, and this surprised them as Japanese pronunciation is apparently difficult to copy.

Sometimes for me it’s even more about the performance than the singing-the reason I like this is the clear joy you see on his face when he’s singing-it’s obvious even in the thumbnail. Also, while I get that his high range is partly what sets him apart, I really love the songs where we get to hear more of his natural tenor. Loved this reaction! I’d love to see your reaction to Samaltau, which is another favorite of mine.
