Kobyz is a traditional Kazakh instrument which Dimash insisted be used in the song. The pianist is reknowned Russian composer Igor Krutoy who came out of semi retirement to work with Dimash. Kazakhstan having been part of the former USSR, Russian artists, music and collabs were common place. Dimash grew up on hearing Maestro Igor's music and they have collaborated often since Igor heard Dimash sing Sinful Passion. If Igor is at the piano, the music is his composition.

@@elisabethstermo9396 People say that Igor is from Russia because he himself has severed all ties with his home country, Ukraine. He studied in Russia, where he developed his career and became very rich. I don't know if he wrote any songs in his native language. Ukraine last year has put Krutoy's name on the list of hostile Russian oligarchs who should be subject to sanctions. The latter probably proves Igor's connections.

Dimash & his father (Kanat) met Igor Krutoy at an event in Italy. Dimash was invited by Igor to perform at New wave where he performed Sinful Passion. Dimash & Igor confirmed their first meeting (In Italy) on the "Hello Andrey" Russian Talk show in 2019. At New Wave, Igor Krutoy was in front applauding/standing after Dimash's performance. Igor is not always at the piano when Dimash performs one of his songs, this is especially true at his Solo Concerts. Igor has attended & performed with Dimash in 2019 at his Solo Concert in Kazakhstan.

Thank you so much for your insight - yes, his musicianship is very authentic and I am so glad that he approaches it with purpose without losing integrity or taking away from the stylistic needs of the intended genre (meaning, it's contemporary so he addresses that within the arrangement but still keeps his technique without sacrificing it in such a way that it sounds off or wrong). That Kazakh instrument is called KOBYZ. It is an ancestral instrument, used by the wise and referents to ward off evil spirits, formerly its two strings were made with a horse's tail. A legend about Kobyz says that this instrument was created by the great steppe storyteller Korkyt-Ata, who lived in the 10th century and that the tool is charged with magical and even mystical properties and sounds like animal voices. Furthermore, the Kazakh people believed that the spirits of their ancestors spoke to them through this music. The ancient outlook and propriety towards its instruments and music was constantly maintained in traditional Kazakh society and ensured the highest spiritual level of musical art and a special respectful attitude towards musical instruments. Simple people, for example, did not dare to touch the shaman's Kobyz. It is said: The balance between the courses of life and death on earth can be maintained by playing Kobyz. Greetings from Panama.

That is the premiere of this song: Maestro Igor Krutoy and Dimash Qudaibergen have created the really unique song in English with enchanting oriental melodies. “It was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience... I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way”. - Krutoy said. (dimashnews) A Dear hits the nail on the head with this statement: “These are the voices of the world singing the tragedy of human migration forced by tragic circumstances.” Igor Krutoy (Krutoy means 'Cool', *1954 in Ukraine SSR). He lives and works in Moscow/ Russia. He is singer, a world- famous composer and music titan in Russia (billionaire). His family is in the US now. Krutoy came out of retirement to write songs for Dimash. The maestro and Dimash have been working together from time to time since 2018. They are friends and have a father-son relationship. Dimash said also in an interview about the collaboration with Igor Krutoy that it is important to him that the songs are written in such a way that there is room for variations ... so every performance of a song is a surprise and every Dear can choose his favorite presentation... I can not decide. The lyrics were written by Mary Sharon Vaughn (*1947, American musician, songwriter and producer. She writes hits for famous singers around the world, including Lara Fabian) * Premiere at the New Wave 2021 (Russia): Stranger - kzbin.info/www/bejne/onfWc2h-i9OgiaM * Here, the often forgotten unique, spectacular, different version in China: Stranger - Shine! Here is playing the best Kobys player in the world, Dimash’s friend Olzhas Qurmanbeck. This bowl-neck lute played with a bow is is an old Turkic stringed instrument and called Kobys, Qobyz or Kylkobyz in Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz variant, for example, is called the kyl-kyyak. The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the mother (prototype) of all European string instruments. (Turkic means: The Turkic peoples are a collection of ethnic groups from Central, East, North and West Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa who speak Turkic languages. Difference between Turkic and Turkish - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqLbmad4msiJm8k ) A legend about Kobyz says that this instrument was created by the great steppe narrator Korkyt-Ata, who lived in the 10th century and that the tool is charged with magical and even mystical properties and sounds like animal voices. I also wonder if this tradition is specific to Kazakh, because there are some (albeit, small) parallels between the tradition of the instrument being the voice of ancestors and the oral/music traditions of the Hmong people. I think Dimash’s collaborations with Igor Krutoy really explore and showcase not only his range but his range of techniques and styles. I also think Krutoy’s compositions are so innovative and unusual-maybe if I were more familiar with Russian neoclassical music I wouldn’t think so but I love his work. I’m not sure which of Dimash’s songs to recommend next. Ogni Pietra shows off more of his classical technique, Sinful Passion is what enticed Krutoy to come out of retirement and work with him, Ave Maria is just flat gorgeous, and just for fun I really enjoy his duet with Li Yugang, who sings female roles with the Chinese opera (they sing Drunken Concubine and Diva Dance, and Dimash plays around a little with extended techniques-very interesting mashup of musical styles and techniques). Anyway, whenever you’re in a Dimash state of mind, there’s lots to enjoy. I’m so glad you’re checking him out.

The kobyz does not have a fingerboard, so it is using floating harmonics where the strings above and below the finger pressure are both vibrating. It makes a lot more complex frequency interactions.
@bass2yang Жыл бұрын
I can hear it. I feel like not having a fingerboard is partially why those subharmonics/distortion artifacts are more natural to create? I have some studies and examples on my own channel regarding the use of extended techniques as it relates to voice and there are a lot of crossover into the strings and winds. Thanks!

Thank you very much for your very interesting and educational reaction. Dimash always has a clear vision of how he wants to approach the different parts of a song or what the song is asking for to be approached. It is said that he can be pretty stubborn about that when anybody else suggests to do it differently. Dimash doesn’t want to show off his vocals, he wants to convey the message and the emotions of the song through his voice. There are several songs where he doesn’t use his crazy range and they aren’t less beautiful or less technically perfect. For example Qaragym-ai, Makhabbat ber magan (Give me love) or Amanat. These are all Kazakh songs in his mother tongue. Just as his own composition Unforgettable Day (with a bit more vocal showing off). I think all the songs in his mother tongue are even more beautiful and perfect because it’s easier for him to convey the content/emotions of the song. He doesn’t need to translate the lyrics, he doesn’t need to think about correct pronunciation, he can just feel it and let it out.

@@bass2yang In the case of Dimash, we are used to the most unusual combinations:) For example, his own latest compositions "The Story of One Sky" and "El Amor in Ti". These are really something, even by Dimash's standards.

The low note Dimash hit was a C2 not the C3 you implied. Maybe revisit that to verify for yourself. The vocal range in this song was C2 to F6.
@bass2yang Жыл бұрын
I believe I said C2? If not, my apologies, since I also demonstrated a C2. Then again, I may have played it the octave up on the keyboard. Thanks! Edit: yes. I played it up the octave, but I also sang the C2 (and only replied by calling it C). Good catch, my friend. I meant C2 here. The implication was definitely C2 even though I played C3.
@michaelbradley7529 Жыл бұрын
@@bass2yang This reinforces the idea that I should wait till the end of the video before commenting as I did hear you clarify that it was a C2, although the confusion was initially because you did play it an octave up on the keyboard. Great break down by the way.
@bass2yang Жыл бұрын
Haha no worries! I usually don't look at the keyboard and since it "changes octaves", I forget where the C2 is. I usually set it lower when I review bass videos since it is only 49 keys lol. And with Dimash... well... I have to move it around haha. No worries and good catch, my friend!

Thank you. I enjoyed your analysis and observations. This song is epic. Dimash did a 2nd live version when he participated in the China show 'Shine Super Bro.s'. You should take a listen to what he did in the middle of the song at that performance. It is vocals like you have never heard before, very different from this version. Also, Dimash was ill with rhinitis at the time, and left the show to have a procedure done. That is why he didn't hold that last note as long as here. Here's the link to that performance, it is jaw dropping: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpnFmJtmpq6mmas

Thank you for your amazing analysis! The beautiful two string instrument is called Kobyz (Qobyz). He is indeed imitating instruments in some songs (like electric guitar in Across Endless Dimensions or The Show Must Go On) and thank you for pointing this out. Waiting for your next one.

The Kobyz or kylkobyz is an ancient Turkic bowed string instrument, spread among Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. The Kyrgyz variant is called the kyl-kyyak. The qobyz has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather.

Such a powerful history - it makes me want to collectively assess similar instruments and trace them back as far as possible to see where the history starts and then move forward to see what it affected, changed, and which cultures/peoples also took on. From what I can remember in regards to my culture, the Hmong were nomadic so it was common for them to adapt and take on the customs and cultures of the land they occupied.

Dimash is recognized by many as the best male vocal, among female vocalists, many consider the best young singer Diana Ankudinova. Immerse yourself in the world of unearthly voice. I recommend making a reaction to one of the best vocalists in the world. The incredible fate of a girl found with a broken collarbone at a bus stop and ended up in an orphanage. Meet Diana Ankudinova! 1) super unique voice (dramatic contralto with polyphonic overtones); 2) the most complex vocal techniques, a bewitching voice; 3) Diana sings in 6 languages : English, French, Russian, German, Spanish, Arabic and any musical genre; 4) incredible charisma, artistry and living of any song; 5) a range of 4 octaves, which at the age of 19 is far from the limit and will continue to grow; 6) a large army of fans around the world; 7) an independent artist, without producers and labels, only with the support of fans and reactors like you; 8) more than 13 thousand reactions. Some reactions have 3.5 million views.

One of the most famous hits of the king of rock 'n' roll in an unrivaled gorgeous, phenomenal performance by Diana Ankudinova ( 18 y.o.) Can’t Help Falling in Love (Elvis Presley / DARK VERSION cover) VERY IMORTANT, the video must be original (duration - 8.56m) from Diana's channel, NOT a short pirated copy from "brocoli". 6.8 million views 182k likes - total 969 reactions to this performance by Diana. ATTENTION: 1) Please use ONLY original content from Diana Ankudinova official channel. 2) Videos from TV shows are often blocked by KZbin and video EDITING is required. MV, live performances are available for unlimited reactions WITHOUT EDITING
