I've been T-rigging worms since the 70's. It's still my go to bait & I'm pretty good at it by now! These were some awesome tips & although you're prolly only half my age, you know your stuff!! You should have more subs than those guys that say "Duude" all the time but teach nothing! Good job!

I like to run t rig with a swimbait hook. No moving slip sinker, just a nice dance on the way to the bottom and good action off the pop.

I have been using the Texas Rig as a go to lure for about 30 years and I find that most people make the mistake on the retrieving, conditions and the aggressiveness and water temperature all play a factor but I believe that is one of the biggest mistakes people make. It is a patience bait

I have been experimenting with pinching the barb flat on my texas rigs and have had good results so far. Better hook penetration and less damage to the fish upon unhooking. Some will call me crazy I am sure.

Really I think those barbs are most useful for live bait. Works well to keep a nightcrawler stuck on the hook! Depends on the fish and angler though for sure.

L .H . I have fished alot of lakes in Canada where it is illegal to fish with barbed hooks, and have caught lots of walleyes and Tons of big pike and have never experienced any problems with keeping a hook in the fishes mouth. Obviously, the biggest secret, is keeping a tight line on the fish. And especially for bass, when they come out of water and shake their heads. Good fishing Lance !!

yep. Some channels are for actually learning and some are just for entertainment only. And to each, his or her own preference. I switch back and forth. lol because some of the “entertainment” only anglers know how to put on a good show, imo. Yes, and some are very very cringeworthy and not even worth watching at all, so I click away from those when I stumble upon them.

I never really peg my weight!!! The action you get without a pegged weight is amazing! And a lot of times when the right separates from a floating z-man elaztic bass smack it hard!!!

When fishing patchy/sparse submerged grass I have really good luck pegging the weight but putting the bobber stop about 4” away from the hook. It’ll go through the grass well and has a little more action from not pegging the weight right on the hook. It really shines with lizards, worms, speed craws, etc.

I have had twice as many Fish landed without pegging my weight for sure and I think there is just less resistance on the plastic and maybe the Fish holds on longer and I get more time to feel the bite and set the Hook, I’m not sure but with me it’s absolutely no pegs. Great Video my Friend

Goooood solid detailed info on the nuances of the Texas rig!!! Your channel is one of my favorites bcuz of your comprehensive explanations!!! I buy the 3mm, 4mm, and 5mm rattles off amazon (way cheeeper) than any big tackle store or online store and put them in my soft plastics in the scenarios you described. Totally agree with you on the no pegging, it does look much more natural. I’ve got a 30K gallon cement pond in my backyard and I’m ALWAYS throwing different baits and observing the action. I take the different soft plastics and put the different size weights on them and note the fall rate as you mentioned, I think it has a profound impact on the fish reacting to it. I feel it helps me catch more fish. 👍😃🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

I'd say number one thing to make sure you do with Texas rig is using a snell knot! Doing this will increase hook up ratio more than anything

In creeks and streams that are clear I have had fantastic results with a straight, thin, 4" worm without a weight. I use a spinning reel and light line and finesse fish it. Slow and easy. On lakes, semi-clear to clear, a bigger worm, same thing, and it can work. This technique works very well for me in the dog days of summer and there really is no deep cool spot for bass to hang out.

One thing too is the tail curve. Always have the curl closest to the head of the bait align with the curve side of the hook. Creates better tai action.

I would wonder if you could make the same points but in a positive way instead of being negative. You put everything in the negative and I feel like I have heard nothing. However, if you make things positive then I can listen and learn. I have people in my life who criticize a lot, so it is not necessary to see it on KZbin as well.

Definitely agree with hook placement on big worms. Most of the short strikes or tail grabs that I have gotten have been on shorter worms or from fish that could never fully engulf a big worm.

Love the content about the light wire hooks. I started using Skinny Bear hooks a couple years ago in EWG and RB and I absolutely LOVE them! One thing that I also do to either style hook is I will sharpen the hook and bend them up no more than 1/8th of an inch. Much love and hope you're safe, Brother!

nice video with a lot of useful information.....Lunker City makes a Tex-pose hook, that I now feel is the best hook out there for rigging a plastic texas styled....as the hook point comes out of the bend on these hooks, it is perfectly straight, so much so, that in many situations you don't even have to pinch the plastic back into the hook point, because it lays so perfectly flat on the plastic.

Totally agree with the not pegging weight. Fish can pick up the plastic and carry off with it without the weight. Bass will tend to spit out more plastics when they feel that weight in their mouth. You will catch more fish with an unpegged weight 90% of the time

Instead of a bead you can put a split ring in the eye of the hook. It will give the bait more movement and noise. When that tungsten weight hits the split ring it will mark some noise.

If you set the hook and "yank," and the tip is really sharp, what difference does the thickness of the hook make? I listened to you, twice, and still do not see at all why thinner hooks are better. The weight and thickness of a hook is so miniscule, it does not matter. I still enjoyed listening to the video. Wahi' Valleys
