Bob Babbitt was a staff bassist at Motown along with James Jamerson. His discography is nothing short of amazing. As you will see in the following video interview, he is also a very kind and humble man. It was really cool to sit and watch this interview take place....every time he spoke of records he played on, that I have heard since I was a kid, my jaw hit the ground.
Not only was this something awesome to take in, but I was more impressed with his humbleness, kindness, and willingness to share his knowledge to encourage our readers in all they aspire to do with their careers. Please take the time to watch this interview, as there are few men alive today that have played on such hit Motown records. This will be a stunning interview if you have passion for bass the way we do here at Bass Frontiers.

Another example to the greatness of the chemistry made by blacks and whites playing together. Love it!!! RIP Bobby. You are part of my childhood memories.

WHAT a professional Bob was. I am a drummer of 43 years, added bass playing about 2 years ago. After 43 years of following bass players, decided to become one. Bob echoes my feelings...."PLAY FOR THE SONG!!". In drumming I can play a bass drum or NOTHING for many bars if I think THAT is what fits. Bass playing....ROOKIE all over again. The danger is the chop display....Bob NAILS it on the head man!!

Brilliant. I'm a hack bass player. I've played a long time. I play in cover bands and do my best. I work hard to learn songs, but will never have the natural ability of a Babbit or Felder. But I study their stuff. I've only recently found the beauty of Motown. Mr Babbit seems like a very giving person. TY for posting

I'm a Jazz/Blues player and I like swing also but if I wanted to work in the 80's I had to do country and I did for four straight years.

This is the litmus test for Bass Players... This song is for Bass Players only. Go back to the wood shed and don't come out until you learn this song NOTE FOR NOTE... If you can't play the song, go and sell your instrument, and take up a new hobby such as watching butterflies, because you (sir or madam) ARE NOT A BASS PLAYER......
