I rode a Basso Astra in my holidays this year and i have to admit, it was a very responsive and nice bike. (Normally I'm on Cinelli and BMC)... friend of mine bought it some month ago. He was on a Trek Madone, but he couldn't menage to set his Super Record on the Trek going snooth because of the BB-Housing. He's also very happy with the Basso now and the Groupset is doing a perfect job now 😊

The Basso is nice. Renzo Formigli also makes all of his bikes in N. Italy, and produces the handsome carbon Formigli Zero from his own mold. While a few ounces heavier, they are less twitchy or, as someone described overly light bikes, mousy. Renzo also makes steel.

Nice video!, Regarding of holding the speed on those high tempos, I can blame the wheels, since the In House brand is good, but its not a wheel specialist. I would recommend riding it with some nice deep wheelset with some better rolling and you will feel how this bike flies

Out of all the bikes I’ve owned, the late 90’s Ciocc was my favourite. 14.3 Dedacciai steel, Campy SR, Synergy wheels w/ Kevlar spokes - the bike was an absolute joy to ride and race. I lost it when a friend of mine had it in storage, then lost everything when she didn’t pay the bill…

I have recently ordered a Basso Viper from 1994 made from Dedacciai 18MCDV6HT. The level of craftsmanship in this carbon frame is like Olmo, Daccordi, De Rosa, Bottecchia and Wilier Triestina carbon frames. It is the opposite of the Madone by Trek which is like riding on wood, more or less the same with a Specialized Tarmac. The Mavic Cosmic Carbone or Zipp 404 disc might eliminate the problems you are encountering with the actual wheels

@@thegoodwheel Hope you will find the wheelset that gives you performance without weighting too much. I am an old school person I still stick to rim brakes but mainly from Zipp and Mavic. Boyd makes also very good Disc brake wheels and so does DT. Reynolds wheels aren't what it used to be. A friend told me a good thing about Dedacciai and 3T wheels , maybe you should have a look at them.

When I was at the ribble factory I learned they manufacture lots of basso's frames. Kinda like canyon only manufactures 10% of their own bikes. This is what I learned on my world tours. There's 4 major factories that manufacture everything for everyone. Two located in Taiwan. Nothing against these manufacturers, just a reality. I can't tell you how many people think their bikes are made in Italy or so on because they purchased a bianchi that says "built in Italy" when in reality, Gt bikes started that scam. Just means they assembled it there.
@alanwoodison5716

Except Basso actually have a facility in Italy, near Venice, where they manufacture their own frames. Almost everyone else though, yeah, you're right.
@christiankeim
@christiankeim 25 күн бұрын
@@alanwoodison5716 basso even has their lower end frames made overseas. Most manufacturers have in house factories. But they all send their lower end products overseas for manufacturing. Basso has like 3 different grades of carbon. They only make one grade in house

I have owned a carbon bike with hydraulic brakes for a decade. I don't see why people be hating and make a big deal out of it. Carbon is light, hydraulics operate smoothly, that's all there is to it. If people don't like it then just don't buy it. aluminium and steel frames still exist and are cheaper, cable brakes still exist and have affordable options too. The cheapest road bikes that i know have cable rim brakes and aluminium frames that won't rust like steel does 🤷

@@thegoodwheel Thanks for the response. I think a new business model is needed for the high-end bikes: sell whole bike, except for the wheels and saddle. Rotors are supplied to go with the brakes and the hoses are connected (to be cut later on when steerer is cut), but fork shipped not threaded in the head tube. This would save a lot of space and weight for shipping, make it easy for the consumer or bike shop to assemble and not have to buy a second set of wheels and a saddle because it is not comfortable. It would also allow bike shops to add more value for the consumer, instead of struggling to make a sale on a bike with mediocre wheels.

Historically Italian/Euro bikes were made for the One Day Classics and Tours, so they were comfortable yet competent for longer rides. Then when companies like Look were changing things for riders like Hinault/Lemond, things took off into another direction. I learned from an Italian rider so we always rode in am peloton or formation, and back then I had Belgian frame and he had the Vitus/Merckx. I used to love longer rides, from 60 -100,because there's no hiding when it's 5-8 hours in the saddle. So Now Luis, you need to decide which bikes and riders will be with you in the upcoming Tours in Europe..For some reason I totally missed the TDF, yet now that I think of it, I was visiting in Maryland and none of my friends watch cycling..How many stages did you all win?
