I've watched these video's all weekend and yours is the best video on this topic out there. As a side note, this particular rudder has been discontinued and replaced with the "beavertail" rudder. I just installed the beavertail on my 2016 Lure 11.5 and would add the following for those who need to do the same: 1) the install of ALL hardware but the rudder itself is identical in parts and procedure. 2) Instructions that come with the beavertail are basicaly a parts list only. HORRIBLE! 3)The Beavertail rudder assembly has a top AND bottom bracket that sandwich the rear handle. The large pivot pin in the beavertail is actually a two part piece that fits between those two brackets and through the mounting hole in the handle. . The pin is made from a screw (accesable from the top) that threads into a long hollow tube on the bottom. ( It looks like one solid pin as it arrives!) The pin must be screwed off from the assembled rudder and removed from the bottom BEFORE you can put the rudder in place. Once the rudder is slid into position over the handle (with washer between bottom bracket and handle) the tube must be reinserted up through the bottom bracket, washer and handle and tightened onto the top screw. Hint: Use a phillips screwdriver to allign everything from the bottom before trying to get the pin in. Also,I used purple loctite on those threads as there is no room to install the clevis pin to lock in place. 3) Melting the end of the Up/Down cord and twisting it to a point aids greatly in getting it to feed though the exit of the tube. 4) The Up/Down cord takes a SERIOUS pull to raise the rudder. It is MUCH easier to pull if you press the right rudder peddle completely first. This alligns the rollers in the rudder with the cord before it is pulled. hth

Thanks for the info, I received my feel free 11.5 yesterday with everything installed (foot peddles and cable) except for the rudder. You are correct, the beaver tail instructions are terrible, I second guessed how I installed it, but basically did it as you said. I plan on adding thread lock to the pin threads so everything will stay together. I noticed how hard it was to raise it up, I’ll try pushing the right rudder peddle as you said and see how that works. Thanks again for the reply.
@davidaguiar13875 жыл бұрын
@@ddddsd20 Mashing the right peddle puts the rudder in direct line with the hole where the up down line comes out of the hull. Lining it up like that puts all the force into lifting the rudder. It helps but doesn't cure the issue. FWIW, I felt the rudder was sticking in the full down position due to friction between the blade and housing. I took the blade out of the housing and polished a little where the parts interface with 600 grt sand paper. ( It's just the one screw to take it and the spring assembly out) I also lightened the spring tension one notch when I reassembled it. Seems better (but still not great) now. I'm hoping it will wear in over time.

The cables will not go through and exit the rear hole on both sides. Got any ideas how to fix this?
@TheBassquatchHunter6 жыл бұрын
Richard obershaw yes. Does it feel like it hitting something at the end? Sometimes the ends hit the grommet. Make sure the metal ends are not frayed at all. If they are, snip the end off clean and try again. If they aren’t frayed, slowly move them in and out at the ends while twisting the cable so the end can exit at a slightly different angle. Sometimes they need a little love, sometimes they go right through.

o.k., my new rudder is in place. easy, thanks to you. the only hitch was getting the pull cord through. I finally got the idea to use a piece of the old rudder cable to tape it to. thanks again!! fun fact, feelfree put the adjustment screws on backwards. I had to cut them to avoid taking the whole foot peddle assembly off. without the video that would have been a nightmare to do.

can you no longer adjust the peddles once you install?
@TheBassquatchHunter8 жыл бұрын
Yankee Tanker Outdoors You can still adjust the pedals after installation. I found that the tension is thrown off if the pedals are moved and you may have to adjust the tensioner screws to have the "feel" the same. It is easier to have the pedals in the correct placement for the angler at installation, but can be further adjusted as needed since it does not change the length of the cable.

@TheBassquatchHunter5 жыл бұрын
Stryker 2 the lure 10 does not have any way of accommodating an internal rudder and was not designed for one. It is part of the advantage of the 11.5. There are after market rudder kits that may work, but I am not experienced with those.

Great video with really clear instructions. I still can't get over the really bad design of that rudder that when stowed is sticking straight up in the air like a dorsal fin. There is actually a much cheaper generic rudder that will fit and work for the Feelfree kayaks that when stowed flips completely over the rear tankwell so it's completely flat and more out of the way.
