A small windup for the pounce attack would be nice, it feels a little bit too instantaneous/ non reactable. Might feel unfair if one fights against him. I think looking at Dark souls bosses is a great idea for good visual indicator of moves, maybe the Sanctuary Guardian for this boss in particular. Otherwise great job, love your progress!

I mean, I mentioned it, it's called Sanctuary Guardian. And it's not literally it, no lightning attacks or wing blast. There are many chimeras in games, for example Dragons Dogma, they are cool and fun to fight against. @@NaughtyKlaus

Looks pretty good, this is going to be really fun. The sliding as he walks is the only issue that stands out to me for animation. For combat design, having an interesting option other than dodge and swing your lantern would be great. Whether its something that heals you, stuns the enemy temporarily, a slow attack that deals big damage, or a ranged attack thats really weak. 2-3 combat options is a good minimum as long as they're each interesting for your combat.

I get so giddy every time I see a new Legend 64 video pop up in my feed! Hands down my favourite indie project Ive seen in years. I loved this sequence, the way the manticore came out of the darkness was REALLY intimidating and cool. The only piece of constructive criticism I would offer is that I feel like the spinning yellow Ztarget is kind of obscuring the manticores face. Which is a bit of a shame since the texture job is awesome. Maybe it could be lowered a bit into it’s torso, to give the manticores face a bit more space? Anyway, keep up the good work! You’re an inspiration.

Looks great! Love seeing your animation work and the style is great as always. I do have a recommendation for when it takes flight: unless the goal is to force the player to break auto-lock, make sure the enemy doesn't fly too high over the player. If the angle is too great, the camera will be forced too low during auto lock which makes the player's model cover up the majority of the screen. From my experience, a good rule of thumb is that the camera should not touch the ground. Take a look at what the Souls games do - typically, flying enemies will remain a large distance away that is clearly visible to the player and quickly dash in to attack, rather than get close while flying to plunge down.

For a second I thought it said "I'll take flight" so it seemed like the Manticore has ran up to the protagonist, gave his a warning, then immediately whacked him. 0:23 - There we go, there's the flight. Nice that the Manticore doesn't immediately decide to fly up, allowing a couple ground based hits in. I imagine you'll eventually have a projectile attack. The lantern and it's flame seems well suited to the idea. 0:34 - A bit of rolling showcase. Looking smooth and with a clear sound to it. 1:16 - The Manticore flies up after a while as you're close but with hits with scary accuracy if you try to make some distance. A fun challenge to have to deal with. Nice showcase of your work here!

This is so nice to see. Ive been working on an N64 inspired art level for a bit and I really hope to get to it. I really think the N64 and PS1 were the last era where hardware limitations really drove the aesthetic. Probably because 'shaders' and graphics hardware got 1- unified, and 2- hardware boosted. Not that the hardware limitations after then didn't drive the visuals of a game, just that it's the last one that has a clear 'this is a particular era' look to it. I mean for god sakes, did you know the sega saturn's hardware didn't draw triangles? It had some square based thing.

@frankeeeej7 ай бұрын
Royal Skies is a youtube channel that has super duper to-the-point tutorials that don't waste your time. He just did a bunch about UE blueprints. So you can doodle around in Unreal and go "I wonder how I do [thing]" And he'll likely have a 2 minute video about it, it's a great way to learn. He has plenty of vids on Blender too :)
@Legend64Project7 ай бұрын
Honestly, KZbin. It's what I used.
@Mcl_Blue7 ай бұрын
Mathew Wadstein is excellent for learning what each node does. Can recommend RoyalSkies as well. But most of all, any time you watch any tutorial on how to do this or that, don't just recreate whatever's shown to you. Take the time to try to understand what the chain of logic is, what each node is doing and what its purpose is for the final result, build a "node vocabulary" essentially. That, more than anything, will make you proficient at reading blueprint code, and you'll start just knowing how to solve your problems before you even realize it.

Yeah, needs some good boss fighting music too it. Also I think the Manticore seems very out of place for this game. I'm pretty sure I have watched all your dev videos so far, and from what you have said and shown with the game, the story is mostly about the hero fighting against evil spirits and the undead. The Manticore looks more like a normal living monster and not a evil spirit or undead zombie like monster, so it kind of looks out of place. I think you should retexture it so it looks more zombie-like with rotting flesh and some bones showing, just like the Undead Hydra. Also be sure to mute the colors a bit to give it that dead and decaying look. The current colors look way too alive and well for an undead monster. 🙂
