Yep i no longer charge parallel , had battery smoke up really bad , thank god i had it on an old floor tile on my bench or it could of burnt my house down. melted my charger and 2 other battery's. This box is a very good idea thanks for sharing 👍

Thanks. The manufacturer says you can reuse the box UNLESS it was compromised by going over the stated capacity. So the first example didn’t compromise the box for other fires within the 255Wh rating.

It seems like it got compromised due to the seal burning up. The flame was shooting out around the top. I am thinking the filters and thick insulation compromise the safe by reducing the rate at which excess heat can vent out. While the thick insulation and smoke filters are good for protecting things outside the box when the fire stays contained, they can also allow the heat and pressure inside to build to the point where the seal burns out and the resulting release of energy is even more violent. If your’re gonna store a battery that big you might want to just cut out the filters so the heat and pressure can release at a decent enough rate to prevent buildup. Just don’t have anything that could burn above it. Charge it in a wood stove maybe?

It’s a real shame batbox don’t also sell extenders for chargers … so it’d be a more complete solution. I’m planning to move to get one, and also get a 4 port charger, and finally move to charging to a location outside. overly cautious? I think not if you consider the consequences your hobby could have on your family (and pets) … and how that would make you feel !

I'm looking at Bat Safe reviews because I found myself running through the house today with a smoking lipo - luckily I got to the front door before the flames started, but it was a very close call. I did a dumb thing which was exacebrated by a poorly designed parallel charge board - I was not parellel charging I only had one battery on the board, but it is (I discovered today) possible to use this board in a dumb way, which I hadn't though about before today's incident. Needless to say I'm very interested in battery protection now.

(So there's a few cm inside the Bat-Safe and a few cm outside to pull it) (1 cm wide and about 10 cm long, so you can pull on it later (like a flap). can you pull out the piece of paper when it's closed ? With my 3 Bat-Safe's (Normal size) I can do this both on the left & right side - both very simple, but really really easy on the front seal. So easy, I can even push / squeeze the paper in 🫣😱🤯🥴 do you know what material the sealing is made of ? maybe I buy my own one 🤔

Most charging bags don't work and fire will easily burn through so don't rely on those. This box is a small price to pay for peace of mind.

You probably already know this, but just saying for those not in the know -- the fire resistant bags are more for transporting batteries and to buy yourself a minute or two if there is a fire, definitely a different level of protection in comparison with this product!

I have one of these and need a solution that could charge 2 3s batteries safely. The limit on this is 222wh. charging 2 batteries (11.1*8.0) is 177wh so within limit. How hard was it to get 2 charging cables through the grommet with the balance leads please? I am contemplating just getting another box but would like to avoid this for space reasons.

Nothing... The charger might show a lil bit higher IR (internal resistance).. But not much.. You can measure the cables internal resistance with a multimeter..

What about DJI smart batteries? I see no way to put a large connecter like on a Phantom in that rubber plug and I'd hate to have to cut the wires.

I would not be as concerned with DJI lipo packs. They are dramatically safer than a standard lipo. I personally don’t see the need to charge a DJI pack in a lipo bag or box. But as always don’t leave them unattended when charging.

are there any alternative charging boxes on the market similar to this one? its good but it looks awfull and thin material in box and clamp on lid looks week. the bigger version in aluminum look is better but dimensions a lite bit too big for me. or if similar filters etc can be bought somewhere? a heavy duty amobox with extra insulation and filters would be so much better. (at the moment using an amobox with drilled venting holes so it does not explode if fire and lipo bags inside for insulation. better than nothing but not ideal solution)

Don't know any.. You can safely put up to 220 Wh into it.. 2 x 6S 5000 mAh.. That's what i remember..

I don't have a box or a safe and, like everyone else and his dog, leave them charging unattended. My strategy is having them charging outside, on the floor and isolated from combustible materials.

That box is no good at all to me, and I can't understand why anyone would buy it, if you stored your battery in it, it would still burn down your house, or shed, there needs to be something much better than this.

There is a limit to it. It burned out the seal. I’d say if you store many batteries you should put each inside its own small lipo bag. That will hopefully stop them from all going off at the same time. I have seen video where one overcharged lipo goes off and the resulting flame completely envelops an adjacent bag containing like 10 other lipos. The lipos in the bag do not go off. OTOH, putting 10 1000+ mAh lipos in one bag and overcharging one results in them all going off simultaneously. In this case the flame melts the zipper off and shoots out the top like a flame thrower. Clearly having 10 1000 mAh lipos in the same safe without extra protection could overwhelm the box if they all catch fire together. Also don’t store a 10000 mAh lipo anywhere but in a bunker outside.
