“Those that rule our land say we are sons and daughters of the bondwoman and must live in bondage. We are not children of the bondwoman but of the free. Our heritage is dominion over our land from the day of our birth. Some of us have forgotten that we came from the womb of the morning star and we were created in the dew of the free woman. In courage we find safety because it requires courage to take back our liberty. Courage and perception inspire change. If one person has the courage to stand fast in liberty others will not be afraid to follow. When the people combine their courage with perception they attract allies from other nations who value liberty.” Maria Bannach 1898

Dear rbaleksandar, thank you for your pedantic watching but we never ever said that the Russo-Turks war was because of the Batak massacre. It was just the reason for the West World to begin some more active policy against the mass killing of the Bulgarian Christians. Stay in our tunes with the other movies of the channel! And thanks again!

One of the things that I find not to be true in this is the reason why the Russian empire started a war against the Ottoman Turkish empire. It was not because of the savagery of the Turks. It was pure good ol' expansion time. At the time the Russians were waging war against the Turks they didn't even recognize the Bulgarians as a nation. As I said it was just two empires clashing based on huge appetite for resources and areas of influence.

+rbaleksandar That is partially true, but at the start of the war Russia was trying to avoid military action. They were not ready for a war because of reorganization of their army and lack of funds. The war for them at that point was to preserve their reputation as a world power which was under heavy doubt after the Russian defeat in the Crimean War. They felt that they had no way out of war after the diplomatic failure.

Did that Macgahan had married a russian woman?!And did someone dictate to him whan writing?! One lie you tell in the movie - bashiboziks(bulgarian muslims) were never aided by ottoman autorities.Even just the contrary - ottoman autorities prevented similar masacres in other rhodopean cities, exemple Yakoruda.

1-bashibozouks are the irregular turkish troops, not bulgarian muslims. 2-the bashibozouk responsible for the Batak massacre was never punished for what he did, and in fact was rewarded for it.
