They really showed off on some creative mojo when they created this table! I only wish for better software features now. :) xTool Creative Space's programming is not as efficient as it could be, and lacks fine control over job sequences like Lightburn has.

Had it for a couple days now. Lucked out software is similar to buddy’s 30 watt. Marked a piece of stainless. Took a little longer, 15 sec as Apposed to a second. Still playin with cycle times. Guessing it will do inconel and other exotic materials just as well

Very cool, I am still waiting for some more cnc videos from you. I am looking at getting a 20w diode laser also. My 14 yr old son has made some projects on a laser at school, and would like to keep making things for friends and family. I am torn between the xtool d1 and the sculpfun s30. For the same cost as the xtool, I can get a much larger work area on the sculpfun Keep putting out the gr3at content

That would be a tough choice just starting out. I will say that the xTool ecosystem is one of the best in the market right now. Both for accessories, support and also in community support from the large number of customers they have. I would only do a larger work area if it's really really important. Also bear in mind the wattage of the laser head. I'd take a small 20w over a large 10w any day.

Hey Sam, great vid. I did buy the template pack, working with them now. I see V2 in the file name for the coaster project and the panel dimensions are different from this video, namely the material size is 399mm x 115mm in your XCS v2 file, and in this video you show the material size at 360mm x 110mm. Is there a reason you changed this in version 2 file? I'm laser cutting these pieces out of birch ply today...thanks!

If I want to primarily be engraving on bamboo or wooden coasters and metal lids for candles, do you think this is a good choice for me? I'm also looking at the new S1. I understand there is a big difference in workspace but I feel this one will work good too. Could you please advise me on this? Thanks in advance!

Both machines should work fine for those materials. The plus of the F1 is it will be faster, but the S1 is more capable from a business aspect with the larger size and other features.

Hello, nice video! I have questions about the slide extension: Do I have to carry out the calibration every time the extension is installed and I use the F1 without it? and my 2nd question! If there are, for example, 4 coasters in the xcs, do I have to align them exactly and then measure exactly this distance on the extension and then align them? How thick of a material can you engrave on? For example, my wife has a table piece that she would like wording engraved on. Flipped on its side to engrave the correct location the piece would be approx 6 inches tall.

Sam - do you feel that the slide "slows down" the speed of this being a galvo by setting the laser stationary and moving the slide/pieces? Do you think doing 3 coasters without the slide would be quicker than 3 on the slide? Seems like it would be?

awesome video. I am currently using the D1 pro 20 W and have been making slate coasters. I amd doing more images of like animals and people and it takes about 15 to 18 minutes each and I have had someone reach out and want a large batch of coasters like 300 to start with. Is the F1 that much faster? What would you estimate the time on the F1 if it takes 15 minutes on the 20W pro? Thanks

Is there a reason they all couldn’t be put closer together and more to the left? I feel all 4 coasters should still fit nicely in that base then. Especially since you are not going all the way to the edge, so they can be placed really close. Thanks!

No, most coasters are 10cm, 100mm the bed is only 360mm missing 40% of the forth coaster. Now if you where only engraving a small spot of the coaster then doable. But not with a large design.

:) Happy to help! Hahaha... I find XCS very limiting and frustrating. I've not (yet) gone down the road of Lightburn with the F1 and P2, but will be soon. Just to see what options I have.

@@Samcraftcom I think we are all so blessed by lightburn everything else feels like a massive step back, that said the only things lightburn doesn't do is the autofocus and the outline preview from what I have seen, not played with the rotary or moving bed yet as they haven't arrived

i believe before you can use wifi you have to have a computer to setup the machine to your network then you can find the F1 from within the app.

Great video! I had a question on the finishing of the slate coaster. I have been using rustoleum matre clear coat. I want start selling them but I am not sure if it is texhnically food safe to use that. Is there a food safe way to finish and protect these costers or does it not matter what you use.

I do not put anything on my coasters. I engrave them, wipe them off, and send them out the door! I've sold thousands this way and never had a complaint or issue. If sealed, the coaster will not absorb anything like a coaster should. If engraved correctly, the design will not fade or lessen over time.

Okay sam, what I don't get is why spend so much on independent laser systems when you could far more easily batch out probably ten times more if you wired a laser module up to one of the larger cncs?

While CNCs have a larger footprint, they also move much slower than a laser. I don't recommend mixing the two together.

These three took right at 49 minutes to run. Colorizing the slate takes a lot longer than just running the IR laser to do the light gray engraving only.

if you have the p2 way not just batch engrave instead of using F1. Some say the F1 is better on coasters.
