Good news: Since you posted this XCS 2.0 Beta is out (but not widely available) and it looks like the final release will have both a "lock"" tool and a "sho/hide" tool in the layers. Alreading using the BETA, I can say it is very convenient having locked reference items (template marks) in a project. Thanks for your content and knowledge. M

I'll definitely be using the array function now! I've been doing it manually when creating my templates. Of course your videos had me creating templates in the first place 😀

When I make my template for thin flat items like business cards or tags, I cut a half circle in the bottom of the template image and a full circle in the bottom plate same location. Makes it easier to get the items out of the jig.

Great video, and applies to any laser setup. Hadn’t thought about a base piece! I might do mdf as the base, as it is more stable than most thin ply I have found. Thanks for the great content, really shining as a tutor.

Thanks for creating this ultimate template kit. Maybe I won't always use it but this was so useful, saving me a LOT of time. I loved the Clack Shack Jig Kit I purchased previously and I love this Ultimate Template kit as well for the extended bed. The £16 I paid here was worth every penny. Now I can quickly make a good jig for anything. 👍

Sam, Question about the grayscale test. I don't understand how the notes from Sam apply on that text. It may also be that I don't understand what a grayscale test is for. Anyway no marks are left if I run it without making any changes to the setting. If I bump it up to what I guessed would be appropriate the whole circle area is the same dark shade, I can feel some variation in releif.

So I'm just starting out with a laser cutter/ engraver. Your videos are very helpful and the file I purchased worked great. Now if I can just get more time with my laser I might be able to learn more. Thank you.

I like your system. On my open frame diode I often use cardboard especially for coasters. I pin it to honeycomb, run the cutouts, load it with material and put engraving in. It’s a really good for workflow for one offs. Might save some wood to make top layer of yours out of cardboard instead of wood and it lets me reuse all the Amazon boxes.

Great video as usual. Is it worthwhile to create the templates as 3 layers? The middle as a blank layer (the bottom in reality) and on each side of this blank layer, a different template? For example, the business cards on one side and the luggage tags on the other? That way you're only using 1 base board for every 2 templates?

Over all, how do you like the F1? After watching this I am seriously considering this to be my next laser for its portability and speed. I will still keep my 33w diode and likely supplement it with another for cutting. But would like to hear any misgivings or shortfalls the F1 might have before investing in it.

Hey Sam! I have watched many of your Shapeako C.N.C Videos & purchased ny 5 Pro on the back of these & it is an ace bit of kit! & now I am into Laser as well! I am also enjoying watching you on the laser ones! You keep these videos short & sweet & fun! My burning question is regarding the X-Tool S1 Like you, I am triggered by that honeycomb base being able to move about & not square corners inside where it sits against. Have you mastered yet any "Samcraft ideas" to fix that problem for users? Execpt making a few blocks & trying to force it against the already curved side walls I fear theres no other sensible solution? I am (Was) trying to make jigs so I can engrave multiple items at once such as your business card holder or luggaeg tag etc. however as the honeycomb base / jig can be in different locations each time you load it up, it fails time after time. I have tried to line it up / eyeball it in the same place each time, but still not good enough for me. Maybe I am over thinking it?! CAN YOU HELP?! or I will have to go fishing! 🙂

I'm finalizing my design for a fence kit for the S1 that will let you align the jigs every time. :) This kit will be easily made on the laser and also work for the standard S1 setup and the riser base. It should be available in a few weeks!

Sam - Thanks for the great video and your insight in creating these product templates. Our primary use for the xTool M1 is to fabricate templates for use in personalized hot stamping and laser engraved accessories. I've been thinking about the best way to use Xtool CS to make jigs for these hot stamping items... and you solved the puzzle with your genius methodology... so thanks! (By the way, we intend to make our jigs using chip board to match the thickness of most of our leather and paper products.) We just purchased your files templates and some other items on your website. What, if any, are your suggestions for any changes needed for use in the M1 laser bed? Thanks again for the great ideas and execution! 👍 Dick S --- Dev Group

What is the best type of wood to use to make jigs?
@Samcraftcom8 ай бұрын
I like using 3mm Baltic birch plywood, but any durable plywood around that thickness will work good, too. Whatever is strong but easily cut by your machine too.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this will not really work for xTool D1 pro correct? Everything on it seems have no way to use absolute co-ords which would be needed right?
@Samcraftcom Жыл бұрын
Correct. This file is only for the xTool F1 with Slide Extension. I've had a few requests to make some for the D1 Pro, and it's in the works. :)
@cambion10 ай бұрын
@@Samcraftcom - Any chance you might expand on this a bit and do a video on creating jigs for the P2 since XCS doesn't provide coords and Lightburn doesn't really support the P2 fully? Maybe a video on creating a jig jig, to easily place different jigs in the P2 precisely every time?
@Samcraftcom10 ай бұрын
@@cambion I am nearly done doing just that! I've designed a fence and several jigs for the P2. Running them through their checks and tweaks, then it'll be ready. :)

What software do you recommend for the xtool d1 pro 40w ? I got light burn thank you for your time
@Samcraftcom Жыл бұрын
I will always recommend Lightburn... IF all the machine's features are supported by it. :) For the D1 Lightburn is the way to go. For the newer machines like the F1 and P2, where their advanced features are not built into lightburn, your only real option is the manufacturer's software (XCS).
