I tend to disagree. Both teams have their comic-relief characters: For Vox Machina it was mostly Scanlan and Grog, and this one has Jester and Nott. But they have their more serious characters as well, like Vax and Percy, or Caleb and Yasha. In the end they both balances out. (Also noticing that Sam played a comic relief in both campaign and Liam played a serious character in both campaign. May be a coincidence, but I would be curious if they switched it up in the third campaign! Liam playing a comic relief and Sam being all serious most of the time! :P )

Which makes me personally enjoy the Mighty Nein more. They feel more open and likable, and also a lot more relatable. I agree that Vox Machina sure has it's upsides as well, sometimes all the edginess and seriousness has caused episode sets that just turned a little dead beat and an unfortunate chore to get through. I have not once experienced that with the Mighty Nein due to their more light heartedness, even if there were plenty of emotional and painful moments during the campaign so far.

It also helps that with the M9 we've been watching them (mostly) from their creation (i say mostly cause i believe Laura played Jester in a different one-shot or something), whereas Vox Machina had been going for years pre-CR. It would be interesting to see if they swap character personalities in a possible campaign 3.

I do personally find myself actually disliking the goofiness at times though. Particularly from Jester. Like, I understand that's her character and she's naive and there's a lot of layers to it. But there are quite a few "Are you serious?" moments for me whenever her and Nott just act. That's a personal taste sort of thing though, and the fact that it's an archetype that kind of annoys me means Laura is doing a perfect job in playing her. I'm honestly waiting for Traveler Con to be a complete 180 from what she was expecting. It's cynical and maybe the evil DM in me is showing but I kind of want it to break her naivety and shake her awake to reality. Not outright kill her goofiness,that's her initial charm. But just reel her back into a tiny bit of maturity. I know that's basically what her character arc looks like its going to be anyway, I just hope it's done and then acted upon properly.

The Mighty Nein needed a good, wise character like Deuceus to balance them out, and 2. Deuceus is just so damn cool. I blame Taliesin for making such awesome and unforgettable characters lol

I really like the "new" Yasha. I think due to Ashley working so much at the time of the beginning of the campaign and up till Yasha was freed, it seems that Ash had difficulties immersing herself into the character. Yasha seems more lively and seems to have more sides to her than just being sort of ominous and brooding now. The character seems to have come more to life now, which I'm really glad about. It's also just a delight in general to have beloved Ashley back with us now. Can't wait till Monday to see what kinds of trouble they get themselves into next :D

I kind of liked the "old" Yasha also. Nott, Jester and at the beginning Molli were all characters who drew a lot of attention. Having Yasha as a quiet and reserved characet also was a quite good counterbalance to them. Plus it is pretty fitting for her situation and backstory to have been that way and now being more lively as she now is freed from Oban.

@@achimsinn7782 very true. Though I do miss Nott's compulsive behaviour. Nicking things and having "the itch". Seemed like it was a key feature of her personality, just like the alcohol thing. But other than the hats, she hasn't really nicked anything for a very long time and haven't had any urges. I kind of miss that. It was quite funny. Edit: And don't get me wrong, I really love that Yasha is this tall brooding and ominous character with a complicated and dark past, but it is nice to see that she has more to her than just that. :)

One of her defining moments for me was in ep 89 where she tried to be all smooth with the secret phrase to enter the fighting ring, but couldn't remember it and just ended sputtering like 5 half-sentences. It was a really nice bit of understated comedy and characterization: Yasha's this brooding, dark, towering goth brute on the outside, but inside she's all soft, clumsy and a little bit dim and forgetful. It's a nice twist on the "idiot barbarian" trope, where it's less about being thick as a brick, but more about zoning out and having a short attention span.

Yeah, I genuinely had to pause the video to have a little cry. I don't know about you, but one of the most enduring emotions for me from Black Summer was just feeling really alone at the end of the world. Like, obviously, there was fear and anger and frustration but the one that really lingered long after the fires were out was the sense that we were abandoned by the entire world (and ScoMo, that asshat) as our country burned. So even those two seconds of Matt acknowledging that we were in trouble and needed help... I can't put it into words. We were seen. We were heard. Maybe nothing practical came of the shout-out but just knowing we (by which I mean Australia) weren't really as entirely alone as it felt was so relieving. I love that Jester admits to casting healing on Sprinkle whenever he is looking a little down. Basically it is the necromancy that Halas was describing. Refusing to let him naturally die to hundreds of points of damage and weeks of no food. This might be the greatest running gag of this campaign. 3:03:20

So, it turns out healing spells aren't necromancy like Halas was saying. Matt made a mistake because earlier editions of d&d classified healing spells as necromancy, but they were changed to evocation in later editions and he wasn't aware. Spells that bring you back to life are still classified as necromancy though. Like revivify and raise dead. Matt quickly came up with a way to preserve the continuity of the Halas scene by saying that the common healing spells during the age of arcanum were necromantic at the time and Halas wasn't aware of the new spells. (This is from an ep of Talks Machina)

So maybe it's not literally divine magic that does healing, poking a hole in that attempt at a theory.)

Dwendal is some 80 y/o bigoted grandpa with some guard dogs. Leylas Krynn is the ideal reincarnation with the ability to warp time and space to her will. She also seems to care for her constituents more (She has the shadow for drow elves, and pays promptly for information. Dwendal threatened the M9 with treason after they saved the city and is known for taxing the common folk way way way too much). Honestly, I'd be a lot more respectful and cooperative with Bright Queen than King Dwendal

When it comes to personality she is by far the better Monarch. She also didn’t say she would “crush” the others she said she’d make the Luxon the one true religion, that being said unlike King Dwendal she’s not actively discriminating against other gods. Also the Dwendalian empire literally suppressed and outlawed any gods that don’t match their ideals…which is why they dislike the Dynasty.

I think this post is my big problem with the M9 in general. They trust a drow queen who is a religious zealot who establishes and keeps a ruling elite just like the empire. She is just as bad as the king but she is more polite. Both the empire and dynasty suck

Omg the dead weasel bit had me crying. I went to the time stamp and rewatched it 10 times before finally finishing the episode. Taliesin dying and Travis wheezing was hilarious, but my favorite part was Laura staying mostly in character and being outraged at the idea Sprinkle is long dead, and pokes/prods him to try and get a reaction out of him. Up to this point, I think the hardest I've laughed this campaign.
